Re: Gigging Kit Help?

I agree with the others. For pro cymbals, you can find each of the for about $100 used.

For $400, you should end up with a full set of A's (hat, 2 crash, ride)

Re: Help with color choice

I use a Fiberskyn on my Renown as a reso and it sounds fantastic.

I believe the P3 Fibreskyn is just a power stroke 3 with the Fiberskyn finish instead of the normal coated finish.

Re: The New Breed of "Metal Drummers"

For as long as I can remember, there's always been a portion of each musical genre that has been more rhythmically driven than the rest. The three guys that you point out have the same lineage that...

Re: Bass Drum Volume / Running Through PA

Agree with the other suggestions.

1: If you're 100% acoustic, try a virgin reso head. Remove any dampening.
2: Try tuning upward so that the LF is in the audible range
3: Sit down with the...

Re: How to inspire a new student in 45 minutes

I sympathize with your situation. I found students like those to be quite disheartening, and simply chose not to continue as their instructor. I had the benefit of being a 1on1 teacher, and I...

Re: How to inspire a new student in 45 minutes

Teaching methodology is a philosophical thing. There's really no 'right' manner to go about it. One could argue that there are definite 'wrong' ways of doing it, but that's not really the point I'm...

Re: Snare for a $200 budget

That site is gonna bankrupt me. They just had a 69 acolyte for $66. My wife is going to kill me (http://www.shopgoodwill.com/viewitem-sugg.asp?itemid=18156820).

Re: Identification of kit

I agree with the consensus that it's an old 60's/70's MIJ kit, and that it was probably a Ludwig copy.

My recommendation is to clean it up, tune it up, and play it. Understand that it's not an...

Re: Band PA ownership options - thoughts, experiences

We 'were' touring everywhere (93-97). Typically, our day consisted of:

Minimal set or acoustic set in music store/coffee-shop/commons to pimp the club show and album. Radio station pimp session...

Re: Band PA ownership options - thoughts, experiences

For small bands that tour locally, this isn't a problem. When you're working a coast, like Portland Maine to Daytona Florida, the band has to cover the expenditures. In this case, the band can...

Re: Band PA ownership options - thoughts, experiences

If you paid for it, it's yours. There's no reason to split ownership other than to make things difficult when people come / go.

Re: Options under a thousand?

I can vouch for the renown. You can pick up clearance of 2-year-old models for about $1000 and used for $800.

That said, if you're going to invest in his drumming...

Make sure he has nice...

Re: Your warm-up tips here!

Since my practice time is now 7:30-9:00 AM, I tend to stretch differently before playing than I used to. It's less athletic stretching and more Yoga / TaiChi. Perhaps I real am getting old.

Re: Bass drops off an ipad??

DaVinCi, DaVinCi, DaVinCi (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCawU6BE8P8)!!!!!!

Remember when bass-drops and beat-drops referred to the parts in the song where the bass/beat 'stopped'?

Re: Bass drops off an ipad??

He can. Many bass players are not properly equipped or versed in mimicking the sound. As you've found on drums, mimicking a machine can require a bit of practice and ingenuity.

It also required...

Re: A triplet fill to improving bass drum and left hand speed

merci

I've been looking for a few hand-to-foot licks to add to my morning routine. This will fit in well.
Very nice.

Re: Tuning Drums for Audition

You're right. Unless something is catastrophically wrong with the tom, to the point where it literally says "Moo" in a passive aggressive tone, it won't matter.

Re: Tuning Drums for Audition

Have another drummer over so you can listen and work on them. Ideally, this is something you should only have to do once or twice and commit to memory.

And don't let it consume you during the...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

If it were not for the cheese-grater stick-eating edge, I wouldn't dislike Sabian B8 hi-hat cymbals quite so much.

Re: Dilemma in choosing a drum kit. Please help!

It pains me every time we see this question, as it is possible to obtain an awesome kit for $1000, but requires domain knowledge above and beyond what first-time buyers typically have.

For $1000,...
