Re: Gretsch Renown Maple vs PDP Concept Maple

I have only played/owned the Cat Jazz kit from Gretsch so I cannot speak to the quality of the Renowns. I currently own a Concept Maple kit and I can say that the hardware, shells, finish etc are...

Re: Seeking Metal Drummer with mics

I have to "like" it on facebook to even play the track?? Weak..

You are way under priced on your offer. Anyone equipped to do a decent recording of a drum kit is going demand more let alone...

Re: Got called for a Session, YAY! Gear Upgrade?

Upgrade the cymbal. That acro can get more than "Bonhan" enough for the gig with the appropriate heads and tuning

Re: PDP Concept Maple Review

I have been fine tuning things as I get a few minutes here and there. Drums are still the PDP concept maple kit and the mics are the same but I have been tweaking placement a little. The guitar is a...

Re: Are 13" toms obsolete?

13" toms are not my thing but I also don't think they are going anywhere either. They have their place. I prefer to have at least 2" intervals.

On the other hand, Peart played a 12/13/15/18 setup...

A Rush Experiment...

I decided to tinker with a few head combination to see how close I could come to replicating early Rush tom sounds. Lots of attack and pretty minimal sustain.

First test was an old style EC2...

Re: Insane experiments with shells, heads, and tuning.

I pulled this generic setup from the tune-bot site when I picked up the bot to get started with my 5 toms (8-16) on my Concept Maple kit

8"E - 10"C - 12"G# -14" E -16" C

Both heads to identical...

Re: Insane experiments with shells, heads, and tuning.

How close do your findings come to the recommended tunings in the tunebot manual? I have been struggling to tune up my seven piece kit while minimizing snare Buzz.

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta

Sounds like the new kit is more Gretsch than Yamaha......
I am sutprised they have not released the particulars of the kit. Seems to be lot of interest in it

Re: PDP Concept Maple Review

Interesting follow up.. I was experimenting with the demo recording last night and realized that the tom mics were actually muted when I rendered the audio I posted. So the sound you are hearing is...

Thanks for the kind words. Anything you would want to tweak if it was your kit?

Re: PDP Concept Maple Review

Thanks for the feedback. This is the first time i have used the i5 on snare. Its much more mid scooped than a 57. I plan to try several mics there. The kick is a really punchy hard rock kind of...

PDP Concept Maple Review - [EDIT - MP# Demo File Attached]

This kit is essentially the same configuration as the Mapex kit I sold to make room for it. The primary difference is that the Mapex kit...

Re: New PDP Concept Maple Kit has Arrived

Its not too bad... It is manageable but I will likely try some different wires on it and see how I like it

Re: Novak moves to Sakae.

I don't think that really applies when we are talking about a small builder selling really pricy kits. Some guys may have more money than sense but generally people in position to have that kind of...

Re: Novak moves to Sakae.

Who buys a kit because some one famous uses it? Waste of time and money. I could sit down behind Novak's personal kit will never sound anything like him.

Re: Does anyone else hate splash cymbals?

I think if people picked splash cymbals with the care they spent on other cymbals they would be fine. If I had a buck for every time I watched a drummer spend hours selecting a crash or a ride and...

Re: Micing my kit with 3 mics

The recorder man is effective but the 33" measurement has never worked for me. The mics are just way to close and get in the way when playing cymbals and I place my cymbals very low when not close...

Re: Micing my kit with 3 mics

Nonsense. Some of the classic drums recordings we all worship were done with the 3. Glyn Johns and his drum micing techniques are as effective as they are legendary as long as you can control your...

Re: How many drum kits have you owned?

Currently I own 2. I have owned 4 in total.

How do you define "professional level"? None of my kits were even close to the high end of the manufactures line but I would not have hesitated to take...
