Re: Steel Snares???

If you're just looking to cut down the ring, get a dampening ring from your local drum shop. It's a round piece of plastic That sits on the top head. Cuts that ring out almost completely. A more...

Re: Stock snares

I agree with this one. I don't even own the PDP kit, but was so impressed with the sound on this snare, that I bought it's little brother in birch, as well

Re: Today, I came out . . .

I tested an Acrolite and a Pearl Sensitone Aluminum back side by side and the Pearl won. Bought it on the spot. The Sensitone line is a little bit undervalued, in my opinion. Really a great line...

I have thE aluminum sensitone too. I love it! Played it side by side with an Acrolite and it won out. Bought it on the spot.

Re: Ludwig Black Beauty VS Black Magic

I own a 14x8 black magic and have played the black beauties on a few occasions. I can tell you that my black magic is maybe my favorite snare in my collection. I think the BB sounds better.....but...

Re: Ever have a drums finish sway you away from purchasing it?

Yeah, I think the Signets are ugly too. Great concept though.

Re: Ever have a drums finish sway you away from purchasing it?

PDP snares are awesome! I own 2. I disagree about the kits as well. Next kit I get will be a Mapex Armory or a PDP concept

Re: buying all new

I think those are the superstars from a year or two ago. I remember looking seriously at them, and REALLY digging the die cast hoops and full length lugs

Re: New Snare ??

I was looking for an aluminum snare last year, and had pretty much settled on an Acrolite. Then, in a drum shop, I played the Afro and the Pearl Sensitone side by side; the Pearl was the hands down...

Re: Sakae Eco Friendly Snares

I would guess the compression would increase density, possibly making a hardwood from a softwood. Even so, there are drum makers making snares out of pine these days, a notoriously soft wood. ...

Re: Video Demo: Mapex Versatus Snare

I agree. I liked it immediately upon release, but would never buy it for that price. Maybe $300 tops.....

Re: Ever have a drums finish sway you away from purchasing it?

Taye studio maple wood hoop. They aren't cheap, but it's the best drum I own. Check it out.

Re: I like cheap snares

I agree with the Taye. (I own one), I also own a few low end, some mid-priced, and one or two "high" end snares, but the biggest surprise of all of them is a CB-700 Steel snare I bought used at a...

Re: Best snares on the market

For wood, the best I've played is a Taye studiomaple w/wood hoops. I have a 14x8, and it has everything. I can tune and muffle it to sound vintage, or not. Best rimshot I've ever heard, too!

Re: NAMM 2015 - what do you expect to see?

I agree. While Ludwig's quality can't be disputed, most of their wraps and finishes look.....old. Completely not to my tastes.

Re: 42 Strand snare wire experiment

One warning: you have to leave an even number of wires on each side to ensure even tension. So if you remove , say 5 wires from the left, you must remove 5 from the right.

Re: Double Snare Day

That MPX really looks sweet! Love almost anything Mapex. I Also had my eye on those Gretsch retro-luxe snares, been waiting for the price drop. Then I played one in a local drum shop. Hated it. Just...

Re: NAMM 2015 - what do you expect to see?

Me too. I played them at a GC once. The worst looking and sounding drums I have ever laid a stick on. And I have my doubts about the durability of their screwless lug system.

Re: Which Snare Wires to Get

I have to disagree with most everyone here. I have puresounds I put on a Black Panther snare of mine, and I don't like them at all. Can't get rid of a sloppy snare noise. Tried some others, and...

Re: Rant: Who's in charge at Gibraltar??

I disagree with most on this thread. I have had several items from Gibraltar that were good quality. I am generally impressed with their construction and quality. I also think that items like the...

Re: Input on PDP concept series welcomed.

I was in a GC recently, and played a Mapex Armory, Gretsch Maple Catalinas, and the PDP Concept, and the Concepts were far and away the best. Sounded a lot like a high-end set of Prfemiers I played...
