I'm currently looking for backing tracks for my Berklee audition which is on the 26th february.

I might get a very, very nice BigBand tune by Laurence Cottle (London bassist and arranger)...

That's a misleading thought.

A speaker needs to move air. To produce a low frequency you need to move a lot of air -> big audiowave -> big membrane
The smaller the frequency gets, the less air...

just curious what makes you think the larger the diaphragm, the more readily it will capture ultra low frequencies.

I use tension on purpose sometimes to create some special kind of feel.

For example my hi hat: When I really want straight 8th notes, I tense up my arm and play from elbow.

You're not going to "really" play it?
Hm, for a DAW you might be able to find a drum-synthesizer which allows you to add snare-buzz to the toms. Like the latest roland e-drumset.
