Re: 12" Tom Sounds Choked

Thanks so much for the replies. So the drum actually sounds great off of the YESS mount. I am going to try to reposition it and tune it while mounted. Stay tuned.

Re: Ludwig shells vs. Sonor shells?

I have to say that the 3007 sounds amazing. I play one every week when I take my drum lessons and its parked next to a Mapex Pro M with the same tom sizes and head combination. To me the Sonor has a...

12" Tom Sounds Choked

The 12" tom on my Yamaha Tour Custom (newer maple kind) sounds choked compared to the 10" and 16" toms. They all have clear emperors on the batter and ambassadors on the resos. The 10" and 12" are on...

Re: 14x12 or 14x14?

Thanks for all of the input, it was really helpful. I have decided to go with the 14x14 on legs. I think it will suit my playing and my 16x16 well.

14x12 or 14x14?

It's time to add another tom to the set up and I am having trouble deciding between the two sizes (one obviously mounted and the other on legs). I play mostly rock and have a 10, 12 up, 16 floor tom...

Re: Yamaha Oak Custom Vs Yamaha Absolute Birch

Hello Drums&Beer,

I am interested in your opinion as to how the Stage Custom Birch sounded in comparison to the Birch Custom. Did the dealer happen to mention if the same shell is used for both of...

How much is my kit worth?

So the time has come for me to sell my drums, and in this type of economic environment, I am in need of some opinions as to how much they might be worth on the used market.

The kit is a Yamaha...

Used Saturn Worth $750??

Hey Drummerworld,
I have an opportunity to buy a Mapex Saturn 10, 12, 16, 22 (no snare or hardware, and in need of new heads all around), used but in great condition for $750. I like the way they...

Re: I need alot of help guys!

By the way, may I ask where you found the Stage Custom on clearance? I'm surprised as it is a kit that has only hit the market last year. Thanks.

Re: I need alot of help guys!

I would go with the Stage Custom. They sound great and are built very well.

Re: Renown Maple or what? help!

The Renowns are great drums for the money. However, I would suggest you also look at the Peal Masters MCX. Both kits are maple with die cast hoops etc, but the Pearls sound fantastic imho. The best...

Re: Size Matters?

While an additional 12" tom can be tuned to give you a higher pitch, it will be much easier as well as more versatile for you to buy a 10". I would try to match the depth (10x10) as well as the wood...

Re: Taye TourPro VS Ludwig Centennial HELP!

The Ludwig is the way to go. North American maple shell, cool finishes and the sizes you seem to be looking for. As for the kick drum depths, honestly, I think you will be happy with either....

Re: Gretsch Catalina Maple VS Sonor 3007

I would choose the Sonor. In my opinion, they have better hardware, better finishes and the TAR mounts are wonderful. And they sound fantastic, even with the stock heads. Some retailers may also...

Re: GRETSCH RELIABILITY

Gretsch reliability will be series dependant as with most drums that offer a lower line. Some of the less expensive models that are made in China and Mexico are most likely the ones that you have...

Re: did anyone else go through this phase

I haven't really gone through that phase. When I first started, I had a very basic kit and was happy with it for the most part. But as I advanced and was able to play better and a bit more...

Re: Yamaha Tour Custom will replace Stage Custom models?

The Stage Custom Advantage has been replaced by the Stage Custom Birch this year. I doubt that Yamaha would discontinue a drum set that they just debuted this year and replace it with a model that...

Re: Tama Hyperdrive toms

The best thing to do would be to try these out for yourself if you are able to. This is true for all drums in my opinion, but especially in this case when we are talking about tom depth. These will...

Re: what would be a good kit for giging with?

If we're talking just shells (no cymbals or hardware) I would reccommend the Pearl Masters MCX for that price. You can get a 4 piece shell kit (no snare) for about $1300ish, then pick up a good snare...

Re: What would be the best 4 Pc. Configuration for rock/funk?

Hello,
As far as an opinion on tom sizes goes, it would be helpful to know what kind of drums you are currently playing, and with what heads. Good choice with the Starclassic, they are great drums.

Re: Gretsch Or Pearl?

Hello,
The only question I have for you is how many total pieces you are interested in playing? If you are looking for a 4 piece kit, the Yamaha Stage Custom Birch is a great kit. There is a 12, 16,...

I played them briefly at Guitar Center and was pretty impressed. Finish looked good, decent mounts. Snare wasn't bad either. I would check out the Gretsch Catalina Maple as well. They are also...

Re: Pearl MCX's

The MCX is difficult to beat. Have you considered the chestnut fade? Its a very nice finish and not a wrap.
