Re: First jam done

What's all this talk about venues and crowds and jam leaders? That ain't a jam it's a contrived show. A jam is dudes coming over to your basement bringing six packs and just laying' down the groove...

Re: Best shuffles?

Any real blues bar featuring real blues. Dudes older than dirt. can barely walk. Behind his band he just lays down the shuffles all night. He's the opposite of the Front Man. You barely notice him....

Re: When the band you're auditioning for,..

I got rejected recently because they said I didn't stay in the pocket. They said I did not do enough fills and other things. Hmmm....not in pocket but not enough "other things" I need to do more than...

Re: Anyone ever have GOOD experiences answering a Craigslist band ad?

No. Last ad I answered they wanted a very minimal drummer just to keep the 2&4 on snare and 4 on floor on kick, a little hi-hat or ride action. It was all Rockabilly swings and such. Also needed...

Sakae Snare

I have been hunting for a 12x5 Sakae snare in a finish that would work with my kit. I like 12" snares they just fit me better behind the kit.

With the recently announced demise of Sakae my quest...

Re: New wood DW True Sonic snares

Best snare I ever played was single ply Craviotto. But it cost $1000+. I'd buy another if I could find a 12x5 or 13x5.

Re: Why the same songs, when so many to choose from?

The guys I play with are really good about helping. I have problems with my legs so they understand and help. If I get too tired unloading and setting up my BPM on kick might not be fast enough on...

Re: What are my drums worth and best way to sell

Selling a kit on line and then shipping is a PITA. Shipping prices are very high now. Shipping a 14" snare drum from east coast to west coast is $35. You'll have to be creative in how you package...

Re: I'm tired of standard drumkits. Need inspiration and ideas

I like that, Bert. I may do a bit of busking with some friends this summer; that would be great to use. Did you buy it or build it?

Re: Why the same songs, when so many to choose from?

I could not do it. Takes a special person to go on tour like that. I don't think people really realize how hard it is. Like my son who is a golf pro people think what a cool job. Yeah up at course by...

Re: Why the same songs, when so many to choose from?

Yup me too.

All this talk about how much money can be made playing covers at weddings and expensive venues sounds like a job. Work. When it becomes all about the money then that becomes a job....

Re: Is This a 1966 Ludwig

It is 13x6. Sam Ash got measurements wrong.

The interior is a light color wood.

The exterior seems to be a wrap and not natural.

It's dated 01 91 inside. I just received it today.

It sounds excellent. Very solid. How can I tell if Maple vs Birch?

Re: Why the same songs, when so many to choose from?

You leave with $500 or $1,000? So venue or event is paying $$5000-$$10,000 for the band with 10x players?

Re: Why the same songs, when so many to choose from?

Just about where I'm at, and very similar music scene, except I just could not sub with a "jukebox" band. Sorry I'd have to shoot myself lol.

Re: Why the same songs, when so many to choose from?

It's not covers like I can go hear at 99% of bars tonite.

Call what I'm talking about standards if you want. Some rather obscure. Definitely not something you hear all the time everywhere.

Re: Why the same songs, when so many to choose from?

This forum seems to dominated by folks who play covers. Few and far on here are those that regularly play jazz, or strictly Blues (and if your idea of Blues is Allman Brothers covers or Joe Bonamassa...

Re: Why the same songs, when so many to choose from?

I'm not getting $1,000 gigs lol. I'm not sure how many gigs pay $1000 a player. That's some real money.

The typical cover band around here is guys my age (50+) and the front man has a binder 8"...
