Re: THE MONSTER MARCHING KIT - A whole kit made from marching drums!!!

Good job of the refinish. It shows just how big those drums are when you realize that the snare is huge too, and it looks tiny.
Have any pics from the front?

Re: THE MONSTER MARCHING KIT - A whole kit made from marching drums!!!

The more I see the finish on the lugs, the more I like it.
It should be a fun kit to play, just hope the walls hold up.

Re: MOST UNIQUE CUSTOM SNARE EVER!!

I really like the looks of your snare. I remember the one that you did with just the pipe, which got me looking into having one made for my Pearl ff.
What are the two polished areas above and below...

Re: DW badge info

This is what they are, workshop series drums. They were made in the US, just not custom like DW collectors series drums. This is where PDP started.

Re: Get better Andy!

This is sad news, but I hope that Andy has a speedy recovery. My thoughts are with all those that really know and love him. I respect him as a fellow drummer, musician, and person. I have learned...

Re: Opinion poll

I'm not a fan of either of them, but if a gun was at my head, I'd go with the green.

Re: THE MONSTER MARCHING KIT - A whole kit made from marching drums!!!

Did you wrap the drums? I was wondering how you were going to join the kick shells together without having a visible seam. They look nice, and don't look their size in the last pic, because there's...

Re: Does anyone actually do gigs with large bass drums any more?

I've been taking two 16x22 kicks to my shows for nearly 20 years. Before I got the 22's I had two 24's. I just don't like the feel of double pedals.

Re: Questions for metal drummers on the forum

Are you thinking of Derek Roddy's 4-D blast video? It was more of an exercise than used in metal. If I remember right, the feet also traded 8's too, so it was hand, foot, other hand, other foot. ...

Re: If you had a drum tech, would it change your set-up?

My kit wouldn't change if I had a drum tech, and I play a 3 up, 2 down, double kicks, 4 crashes, 3 china, 2 hats, 2 rides, a bell brass snare, and its all on a rack. That's what I take to shows, and...

Re: Is the drummer population aging?

I think this says a lot. I don't use FB/social media due to the line of work I'm in, and I don't care for their practices. So message boards are the way that I connect with other drummers outside...

Re: Pain in right shin while bass drumming

First off, I'm not a doctor. I have been playing metal for 20+ years and have run into this before, with myself long ago, and drummer friends more recently. I think there's a couple of things that...

Re: We are the product of our influences

For me it's the Gene Hoglan double ride stuff. It was after I started using two rides that I found out that he also leads with his left hand and plays on a right handed kit too.

Re: How many have matching snare finish & brand with rest of kit?

I have the matching snare for my DW kit, but it spend most of its time in it's case. I haven't used it in probably 7 years or so.

Re: Recommendation for Small Snare Mic

Have you taken a look at the shure beta 56A. I've used them live before, and liked how they sound.
I play opened handed too, so I know exactly what you're struggling with.

Re: Lubed Bearing Edge

I put parrifin wax on my edges to help the had slide over the bearing edge. I think soap is a bad idea because it would ruin the woody smell of the drum. You dont want to take a head off and be...

Re: St Anger snare, or lid of a trash can?

Have you tried a metal folding chair? There was a video out when St. Anger came out, and the guy nailed the snare drum tone with a mic'd metal folding chair.

Re: Bass pedal toe stop

I don't known if I've had pedals that had toe stops, but I can remember getting my toes in the chain when I was first starting out, and it wasn't pleasant. That was back in the early 90s. Now if my...

Re: Left-footed/Right Handed Hell

My primary ride is on my left, but I have one on the right side too. I'm primarily a metal drummer, and what/how i play, my kit ended up being fairly symmetrical.
