Re: Tama Superstar King Beat

Nice find, its in good shape. very well made drums.
The strainer - depends who much 'original' means to you. It might be quite a hassle and a bit of cash to track down and get the original parallel...

Re: Convince me not to buy a Saturn V...

Re: Boxy Sounding Drums?

Exactly. If interested in this stuff, have a read Glyn Johns Book 'Sound Man' if you haven't already.

Re: When did modern drum head become mainstream?

Seems mostly 1 ply, coated. I've never read about 2ply til Bonham era.
In old pics, you can see used older batter heads as resos. If trying to research 'who used what' its hard to be more precise...

Re: Boxy Sounding Drums?

To me, Boxy is the tom sound on the fills in the Eagles Victim of Love.
I'd insert you tube link here, but all their material seems pulled.
I do think some of this was some sort of standard...

Re: Have you ever have someone in the audience tells you your playing a song wrong?

Nice, ...yes drums way down in the mix eh. She does look like earlier Tina Turner.

What do you think of singers who point at everybody, calling out to do their solo? They seemingly are directing...

Re: Have you ever have someone in the audience tells you your playing a song wrong?

The lederhosen? It appears there are lots of ex-Bavarians in Canby, Oregon.

Re: Is this an acrolite?

It is an acro. Close-up made the surface look a little darker than normal.
They were billed a 'student level' drum when they started Acros, but of course they are on many famous recordings....

Re: dating a supra

Nice find.
the pointy edged badge (versus the rounded corners) helps date it to earlier than late 70's. Serial numbers wander allover.

Re: Beginner Acoustic?

Yep I'd follow Wildbill here.... and he's even found the right prices and source.
If curious here's the Mapex reviewed.

Nice but I'd go Yamaha birch.

Re: Stones backline

In all due respect, you're not getting it. They don't have to pay such ticket prices. You don't , I don't ....they don't have to either. There are market forces in ticket prices, supply-demand etc....

Good on you Tony. Leaving something for the future generation.

Re: Stones backline

What is not 'just not ok anymore'? People always have a choice.
Perhaps their show is 'quality enough' for the people who pay to see them? Its not like a bunch of aging fans are selling their first...

Stones backline

This came across my screen today. Just a jam but one can get a really good long look at Charlie's current setup. More cymbals than I recall previously, and didn't know his snares were customized with...

Re: career advise

My ancestors worked in construction. They all had to move allover the country for where the work was.
I'd think its obvious a pro anything has to do the same - baseball player, actor, forester,...

Re: "Projection" of drums

I don't really think its language. A logarithm of a measurement, or of its ratio to anything, is still a measurement. Otherwise (sadly) we could not have awarded the Who in 1976 as the loudest rock...

Re: "Projection" of drums

I think of Projection as ultimately a measure of loudness, i.e. decibels. Think of two materials, but same head/tension, struck the same force.
