Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

I do hope that, between being a will-less, hot, drumming (but not very well) sex toy, and no longer giving a shit (or some animal's arse as they say in Wales) about what other people think, there is...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

These things are delicate hey... If you say I don't like female athletes because they don't run as fast as male ones, I don't know if one should call it sexist but st least it's based on facts.
Now...

Re: Beyond - dynamics - spaces

Hey Keepitsimple, you don't know how much you hit the bull's eye with that Hiromi link! I just bought the Move album and it's insanely good. I'm sitting here with headphones on and tears in my eyes...

Re: Beyond - dynamics - spaces

It's a way to stay sane :)

Thanks for the tip! Paris is 600 km from here, not sure if I can justify that with the minister of finance after buying a cymbal the other day :) but will keep an eye...

Re: Beyond - dynamics - spaces

Absolutely great. Love the expressiveness.
Unobtainium indeed :) and that's OK. I would not enjoy it as much if I could reproduce any of it.
There's another track in the Drummers section. Love it.

Re: What makes music classic, timeless?

I think those are great observations, I think it explains a great deal as to why songs become classics apart from their musical quality.

Re: What makes music classic, timeless?

Funny - just to undermine my statement earlier in this thread, yesterday evening we had friends over for dinner and I was putting music on when my daugter got clever on me and said "no old farts...

Re: What makes music classic, timeless?

I think what characterises classics is uniqueness, or rather, being first of a kind. Trend setting. Classics are written by people who break the rules - in the right way. Of course there is a great...

Re: I'm overwhelmed

Sell them :)

I know how you feel. It's information overdose every day at work, then in the evening on the couch it's emails again, facebook, tv, newspaper, your favourite drummer magazine (should...

Re: I'm overwhelmed

If you're tempted to do that, than just do it :) if that's a style you feel like playing.

More in general, as you're saying you're overwhelmed and feel unable to retain what you learn, I really...

Re: so my band wants to do top 40s...

Do you think the others will learn 20-30 songs overnight or any faster than you will? Subscribe to spotify or a similar service and you can practise and play along all of them. Don't aim for...

Re: I'm overwhelmed

You're going to be overwhelmed even more with all these replies :)

There are only so many books or methods you can study in depth. Probably only one or maybe two at a time. I bought Syncopation,...

Re: Hannah Ford and Prince

So should I apologise for supporting an artist who does not have the "elite approved" stamp? Rather than calling yourselves intelligent and other people poorly educated, wouldn't it be less offensive...

Re: Importance of a good drum throne?

I think the biggest factor in back pain is posture, more than the throne. Unless of course a bad (wobbling?) throne causes bad posture and strained muscles.
Experiment with raising or lowering the...

Re: Hannah Ford and Prince

Just read Hannah's interview in Rhythm and gave a listen to PlectrumElectrum: whoooaaaahh she rocked my socks off! I can't get the title track out of my head and it's great fun to drum along with.

Re: Hearing the upbeat as the downbeat

;)
It ain't my style either, I have never been able to shut up and put up in life, whether it's a band leader or a boss. But from what I understood of Larry's situation is he wants to continue and...

Re: Hearing the upbeat as the downbeat

If you consider it a challenge, then you just need a few elegant and non-conspicuous 6/4 measures in mind and squeeze one in when appropriate. And then try to need them less and less. :)

Re: Hahahahahahahaha :)

I agree, the drummer is fine. But the girl's singing really does not work for the song. And the cross is the wrong way up.

Re: What songs do you really like the drumming on?

They're not necessarily - or not at all - the same songs that I just like to listen to. (If listening without tapping on something exists :))
Lately I have re-discovered Level 42, I think they're...

Re: Talking salespeople down in price

Have some unknown almighty authority declare that "Our prices are not negotiable". A classy gold plated sign on the wall is sufficient. 90% of the buyers won't ask the question if they see the answer...

Re: Straying out of my comfort zone

It does if you hit the rim softly (whichever way, cross-stick wise or just tap it like your mom would :) ). If you hit it hard it's a rimshot.

Re: Soundproof Practice Room in Garden

Is there really no suitable room in the house? If you build a new structure in the garden and your budget is limited, you might end up with a less sound proof solution than if you threw the same...

Re: I've got the "looper" blues

Tried it several times and hated it. Even if the loop is airtight and if you can hear it properly, the looper is like a player who does not listen to anyone.

Then again he's the ideal scapegoat :)
