Re: Yamaha Rydeen Jazz Kit potential purchase

Yamaha Power Vs were good drums.

Re: Big Band drum thread.

There's actually very little to read in a big band chart. The majority of many charts is straight time (ding dinga-ding, dinga-ding) with a few kicks and rests sprinkled in. Nothing to difficult. ...

Re: Bo is available ;)

Funny.

I recently decided to re-enter the gigging world. Re-headed and tuned up 79 Ludwigs. Picked up some hardware. Gathered up my gig chops up and threw my hat into the ring. I was looking...

Re: Where can I download Aerosmith drum sheet music/transcriptions

Most (if not all) of these Aerosmith tunes are straight-ahead rock/blues tunes. Joey Kramer was a time keeper. I'd think you could have the majority of the drum parts memorized after listening to...

Re: Carlock in, Phillips out

I agree with this. He doesn't have the chops that Simon Phillips has but I think if you're looking for someone that played the way Jeff Porcaro did, he'd be a great fit.

I blend of Porcaro and...

Re: Yamaha Drums

I think your best bet is to sit and watch eBay. You're going to wait a while but eventually what you're looking for will appear. I wanted 10x8 and 12x8 pre-YESS cherry toms and eventually I found...

Re: DW aquires Gretsch and Latin Percussion...

Many manufacturers are closed for inventory the week of Christmas and New Years. I wouldn't read anything into it.

Re: Jeff Porcaro

The opening to Georgy Porgy at 10:38 is one of the best grooves ever.

Re: Yamaha Recording Custom 14X8 Snare drum

The shells haven't changed in 20+ years. What was true in the 1980s was true in the 1990s.

Re: Yamaha Recording Custom 14X8 Snare drum

It'll sit on a regular snare stand just fine. I think the original Yamaha 900 stands are sized (short) for this drum. The 8" has a taller, but essentially same strainer as Yamaha's piccolo snares...

Re: Kit Upgrade, Looking for Advice

I see the Ludwig Rockers set the OP is talking about. The seller has dropped the price to $800. It was a regular 5 pc Rockers set with power toms (2U/1D) and he moved the 13" tom to make it a floor...

Re: Kit Upgrade, Looking for Advice

One up, two down. One mounted tom and two floor toms. I've never been sold on this configuration and if I was buying long-term, I'd look for something with two mounted toms first, two floor toms...

Re: The being fired or quitting thread

You people haven't experienced enough gigging if you haven't been fired. I've been fired three times. One group fizzled out. One group I felt I wasn't a good fit even though they wanted me - I had...

Re: The power of nostalgia

I'm not really nostalgic for my old 1966 Slingerlands. The shells might be ok these days but the hardware was absolutely horrible. I'm not buying a set to collect, but to play. I'd completely...

Re: How many drum kits have you owned?

Four. Three acoustic and one electric.

1966 Slingerland Modern Jazz in Gold Satin Flame (Sold). 20/12/14.
1979 Ludwig Big Beat in White Cortex. Standard 22/12/13/16 set.
1992 Yamaha Power...

Re: Using Left Foot Hi-Hat, Does It Help Improve Time?

Groove or time? A pulse is not grooving so and it appears everyone here is talking about keeping time.

The short answer is no. I keep time internally. Every part of me keeps time. I really...

Re: comparing two new sets, Ludwig or DW?

I thought it was a typo too - a really bad typo because it was all over the GC site - but I checked DW's web site and DW makes a 23" bass drum.

Me, I'd take DW (with a 22" bass drum) all day...

Re: Can you practice buzz roll on a drumpad?

I can buzz/closed roll on just about any surface that offers rebound. I'm guessing you have an issue with your technique rather than the surface you're practicing on.

Re: Won Used Ludwig Classics off ebay

Clearly not a 22x18 bass drum either. Looks like a regular 22x14.

Re: Won Used Ludwig Classics off ebay

Based on the bass drum spurs and the badges, I'd say 1986 or so. My problem is I don't remember (and can't match up in any catalog) the combination of spurs, badges and mounts and I don't remember...

Re: What sticks to a snare drum? (Help stop my triggers from bouncing away)

No pictures from me because I don't trigger any longer. When I did, I triggered a snare drum only. Visualize this. Get a 4" strip of really sticky duct tape. Don't use crap. Place the pickup...

Re: What sticks to a snare drum? (Help stop my triggers from bouncing away)

Duct tape worked like a charm for me. I probably used a 4" length of it though. I kept my trigger near the edge of the drum and cranked up the sensitivity.

Re: ludwig swivel nut

Be careful removing the lugs. You can snap the fasteners off with ease trying to remove them.

Re: Identify this Ludwig kit

If I could see the bass drum spurs I'd have a better idea, but I'm guessing a late 70's Ludwig Big Beat. Worth double that amount, if not more.
