Re: My speed has stalled

Ah the wall... Welcome to it. I have hit it plenty of times. Maybe change the focus of your playing. The practice room essentially is to go through the motions of playing and to address areas you're...

Re: Anyone else notice the cost of sticks getting ridiculous

I remember having a clinic with a top UK drummer an he would pretty much change up his sticks every couple of takes as he said it 'changed the sound' - some of the sticks would be in near new...

Re: Which Hudson DVD?

It's just for the instant download, I don't get a physical hard copy of it.

In terms of DVDs i own, I already have the Steve Smith one, it's great.

Thanks for providing some. I was thinking...

Which Hudson DVD?

Hi!

I've been given a code to claim any Hudson Music
DVD download I want. Obviously it's going to be a drumming one. I am just torn which to pick! I did have secret weapons for the modern drummer...

Re: HELP: Which road do I take?

I agree with the above but at the end of the day, I don't feel like I'm a valued member of the band other than being the drummer. I feel if I left it would just instantly break ties with them due to...

Re: HELP: Which road do I take?

Well,

I am not too sure this is the problem. Each side has it's pros and cons, I enjoy both. I would say though the extra stress of the originals band probably wouldn't exist in the cover band......

HELP: Which road do I take?

Hey Folks,

Just wanted to have your opinions on the following...

I have recently been for an audition with a covers band and I have been offered the spot of being their drummer. They already...

Re: Gavin Harrison here!

Hey Gavin. I am GUTTED that I have lost the CD for rhythmic illusions. I have contacted burning shed and they won't provide me with a replacement. I was wondering if you had the mp3s of the...

Re: Yet another "What time signature is this song in" thread

27.5/16 - I've written 30 solo albums worth of that signature and it took me 17 years of playing to get there.

I also wrote a book on it. 'Time Signatures you will never be able to play, even if...

Re: UK Drum Tutor

Dave Walsh - Hands down one of the BEST drum tutors and Jazz musicians in the UK. He is head of drums at Leeds College of Music and is a past student of Dave Hassell - I really would go and study...

Re: I'm up to my butt in grooves.

I agree with all of the above. I do think it's important to experience a wider vocabulary musically to help influence your own expression and voice on the kit. For me, it was sub divisional...

Re: how to use Stick Control

Pulling this out of the ashes.

Has anyone got a specific routine in relation to Stick Control? I pulled it out the other day. I always feel guilty not going through the first page as it's a good...

Re: Daily practice routine?

I really agree with the sentiment that you need to try and work out what you can't do and what your goals are... I read all day about people practicing paradiddles constantly for 2 hours, but are you...

Re: Moving from an Electronic Kit to an Acoustic Kit

Yeah i wear ear protection... I dunno it just seems I can't seem to move round the kit as best as I would like to... I don't know what it is really. Just seeing if anyone else has the same problems

Re: Concentration Question

It's not just about making your limbs 'fall' in the right place. Really FOCUS on getting that groove right. Is everything balanced, maybe throw in some nice ghost notes. Work on some dynamical...

Moving from an Electronic Kit to an Acoustic Kit

Probably already exists, but I thought I'd ignite fresh discussion, and I think this is relative to technique.

I have found that when I'm playing my electronic kit, I can throw out great chops,...

Re: My Teacher Is Really Pushing Me

I had a teacher like that. It got to the point where I got so mad at the guy, I practised my ass off so when I came to him the week after, I nailed everything. I guess his technique worked ;-) after...

Re: Todd Sucherman here!

Thanks Todd,

I hate to be negative too. I think we all know times are hard as of late, and sometimes it's just annoying when things don't go your way.

I was reading Steve Gadd's bio and it's...

Re: Has tradition been holding drummers back for 100+ years?

Well, Bill Bruford approached this and has his kit set up in what I would consider an 'Alien' fashion... This is also coming from the guy who says he's 'forgotten how to play in 4/4' :-/

Play how...

Re: Snare height

Which is why I said "As a general rule of thumb" dude ;-)... Unless you rock up to a gig every time with a piccolo snare, you're going to have an average snare depth - let's not get into a discussion...

Re: Snare height

Yeah, the Institute branched off from Tech Music schools, mainly because of the way that Tech was run so I was led to believe, however the curriculum is pretty much the same.

Tech really focused...
