Re: "Oh no - Not another new bearing edge!"

I hope you dont mind Andy, but I posted your video on Ghostnote to see what some other builders thought of the design. They applaud you for not wanting to patent it, but one guy said:

"I...

Re: "Oh no - Not another new bearing edge!"

Or you patent it to protect your own company's name. Think about this scenario. Say a big company does respect your wishes and uses this edge calling it the "Guru Tympanic Edge". That company...

Re: Oh No, Not another Bearing Edge.

Or you don't patent it and someone steals it, patents it themselves, and you go broke trying to sue the major corporation who stole the idea from you. Meanwhile, they make money and you go broke. ...

Re: Oh No, Not another Bearing Edge.

Admit it Andy. You stumbled across this design when you accidentally cut too deep with your 3/16" round over bit. :)

Anyway, I'm curious to hear with the same recording equipment the difference...

Re: Yamaha Recording Customs - Help!!

I just finished cleaning up some Tama lugs from the 70's. Gave them a soapy bath and scrubbed them clean with a toothbrush, then hit them with 0000 steel wool, rinsed and dried, then finished with...

Re: DW, the Scientology of drum companies?

While its obvious Bob doesn't like DW's marketing, I think its undeniable that DW is the most open of any drum manufacturer on the planet about how their drums are built, the thought process behind...

Re: Worth rims mounting?

I would say no its not worth it. Those types of mounts you have are really good. They don't put stress on the tension rods, they are much smaller and less unsightly than the Rims mounts, and they...

Re: Dust, pitting, oxide how this can affect?

I did my best to find this exact configuration online, but the best I could find were 5 piece "studio ease" kits for $1399. I figured the 8" tom is at least another $150 and then add a snare drum...

Re: Pearl Roadshow Jazz Kit

You are right. I did take this thread off course. That's my fault and I apologize for that. If people have genuine interest in this kit, then go ahead and check it out. I still do not recommend...

Re: Dust, pitting, oxide how this can affect?

Yeah, that little stuff will come off with some windex, 0000 steel wool, and a paste wax for shine. Its standard chrome, so you don't have to worry about ruining the finish with the steel wool.

Re: Dust, pitting, oxide how this can affect?

I'm all for getting a good deal, and $1400 for a 7 piece Maple/Walnut Saturn with hardware (if that hi hat stand is included) is a good deal. All that hardware looks to be falcon hardware. That...

Re: Pearl Roadshow Jazz Kit

I'm well aware of cheap labor and manufacturing costs overseas. And the fact that things are cheaper to make over seas does lead to good bargains for products around the world. That message is not...

Re: Pearl Roadshow Jazz Kit

Not to sound snarky here, but think about everything you are getting in this kit, and then think about how much just the material alone costs to make it. Then think about what it takes to actually...

Re: Pearl Roadshow Jazz Kit

$379 for a 4 piece kit, cymbals, hardware, and a throne? Shipped? Brand new?

This has got to be one of the most garbage kits ever made. A waste of $380 if you ask me.

Re: DW drums being "Overpriced"

Collectors kits aren't too insanely priced when compared to other "top of the line" kits. Tama Star kits are insanely priced. Starclassic Maple and Bubinga are of equal quality and are 1/2 to...

Re: tom mounts on cymbal stands

Honestly, any stand worth its weight should be able to hold a couple rack toms without being wobbly. Buy a good medium to heavy duty stand and you wont have any problems. Tama Road Pro or Pearl 900...

Re: Keller thin shells for jazz and high tunings?

I played some Kumu drums this past weekend at the Chicago Drum Show. 3.8mm shells. Yowza. Great tone. I would rate them as "Best of Show" with the honorable mention going to Boom Alley who uses...

Re: Keller thin shells for jazz and high tunings?

Thinner shells will excite a bit easier and give you better tone at lower volumes because they don't require so much energy to get going. However, thin shells means you don't have much room for a...

This one confuses me. Are you saying its the drummer's (of the upcoming band) job to get the other band off the stage quicker?

Re: SJC Drums and "The Profit" TV Show

The "good" kit they made is available on SJC's website. Its the "School of Rock" kit. I would say that their website does need a refresh considering this change in their business model. There is...

Re: New Pearl Wood Fiberglass

So I played one of these kits today at the Chicgo Drum Show. Nice kit, but nothing that blew me away. It was tuned pretty fat with the bass drum having a bit of a vintage "bong" sound. Very nice...

Re: 1974 Tama Royalstar Snare Question

Its a steel shell. I have an 8 lug steel shell from my old Rockstar kit that tunes up beautifully. The strainer and rims suck, but those are simple changes.

Re: New Pearl Wood Fiberglass

To add a bit more to this discussion, I found this on another forum:

The new Pearl Wood/Fiberglass kits are truly a limited offering; mainly because they are REALLY difficult to make. Honestly,...
