Re: 15 inch snare?

I am a huge fan of 15's, and they are one of the biggest sellers for us at INDe. I think many people looking for a fatter sound and going for deeper 14s would be much better served with a shallower...

Re: A couple of things I'm not digging from Ludwig

FYI, the keystone brackets are the same drilling as the Triad- you could swap those without drilling. Or if you wanted to keep some suspension in the brackets you could use the INDe brackets (no...

Re: Why is MSRP so far out of whack with street prices?

I agree with all of this, and certainly don't intend to vilify anybody. There are tons of great retailers in the world, across most industries that add value to the customer. And there are some...

Re: Why is MSRP so far out of whack with street prices?

Well, that is kind of the point- is the manufacturer working to satisfy you-the drummer, or the distributors and dealers? There are a lot of businesses like mine, in just about any industry, that...

Re: Why is MSRP so far out of whack with street prices?

Of course, you could always just go with a manufacturer that sells direct, and get more for your money :)

Re: Deciding bearing edges

The bearing edge determines how much energy is transferred to the shell- more contact = more transfer. The rest of the drums design determines what happens to that energy when it is in the shell. ...

Re: What's the best snare you have tried?

I'm obviously biased, but I have never heard anything that rivals the INDe 5.5x15 Stainless Steel snare: https://youtu.be/lne_O2bZ5a0

Re: Why is MSRP so far out of whack with street prices?

The pricing through most of the industry is designed that way. "List" or MSRP is typically what everything is based off of- kind of an arbitrary number that everything is calculated from. MAP...

Re: Ludwig Neusonic

Those are made in Taiwan. Maybe some assembly in the USA, I am not sure.

Re: Ludwig Neusonic

Looks like a good new product. From what I can tell, they are all formica-style "cortex" finishes. Nice and durable. They are molded with the shell which is the big cost saver here. I actually...

Re: My new Ludwig Club Dates

The INDe spurs are 10.5mm, so they won't fit in the Ludwig Brackets.

Re: Cocktail kit

I built this kit for a forum member, and I thought the concept was very cool. Basically a modular setup, with a 14" bass drum and an 8x14 snare, and a 12/14/20 kit that matched. The 8x12 was used...

Re: What does your kit say about your "drum nerdiness"?

I think it is important to recognize there are more than one kind of nerd. I actually score 0 points, but totally geek out on shell construction, bearing edges, lug design, suspension, heads and...

Re: Are Ludwigs "just too darn loud?"

The supersensitive had been selling very slowly for years. The final nail in the coffin was the loss of a die-cast vendor that made a couple of parts for it (also what killed the speed king). In my...

Re: Are Ludwigs "just too darn loud?"

Any 2 drums of the same diameter and with the same heads/tuning will initially respond with equivalent attack volume if they are struck the same way. A more rigid drum with sharp bearing edges will...

Re: Why custom drums are sometimes hard to sell...

Those Spaun drums are a great example. Much of the value (and cost) of a custom drumset is that it is hand built specifically for you. When they are sold used, they are not built for the customer,...

Re: Reinforcement rings and scientific data: the quest.

Scientific data is REALLY hard to achieve on a drum. The problem is there is just so much going on, you can't really isolate a single variable with any quantitative data. A quarter turn on a...

Some sound samples:
6.5x14" Aluminum...

Vintage Spur Bass Upgrade

We figured out that our INDe spurs make a great upgrade for a lot of vintage drums, and introduced a kit that will retrofit without drilling.
It works great to replace vintage (or new) Ludwig...
