Re: Gavin Harrison here!
It must be a welcome change to have that freedom, especially for someone who makes a living as a musician, where in most cases you're at the mercy of the producer. Anyways, hopefully you enjoy your...

Re: Gavin Harrison here!
Gavin,
Just thought I'd stop by and compliment you on the drum part for the song Unsettled. I have heard some of your work with Porcupine Tree and other miscellaneous songs but that one I was...

Vinnie is a great drummer in many ways, which is why there is another great thread already out there.

Re: What do you guys think of this technique?
I agree. He did play a creative pattern with his left side to compliment his right. As far as the tuning goes, that's probably the only way he got the kick and floor to sound close in pitch to one...

That's it! From now on you're Merriam-Wavelength. It's impressive how you, accurately and concisely, describe so many drum-related terms.

Re: Day one recovery.
A man's drum career is at stake and here you are playing games. I sentence you to one week of listening to nothing but this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1KdkQv0FfI).

Re: Day one recovery.
On the positive side, this is a good time to work your left up to speed (or get it close) assuming you're a righty. When your right has fully recovered, you will notice an improvement in your playing.

Aw yeah! Here's another one by the man, we all well recognize for it's thunderous explosions during the chorus and fills, in contrast to the calm during the verse:...

Re: something i never understood
As you probably know from personal experience, the Ian in the band is usually the most level-headed and when there's more than one, pick the one who wears the glasses.

Re: Grant Collins
I feel just the opposite - I think he is sound on technique but lacks in musicality (his solos just don't seem captivating enough) . I'm more with Jones on this.

Re: Listeners or Analysts ?
Great point on lyrics. I feel so many layers can be conveyed through music where lyrics don't stand a chance - I'm guessing it's the subtlety of good music that causes this. In my mind, music is...

Re: YAMAHA MUST CHANGE THE CHEAP ASS ARMS....
I've found this as well but it happened to the YD kit I own (bought it about 7 years ago) within the last year - so I'm not too unhappy.
As far as the nouveau lugs go, it's a trade-off between...

The pedantic pedestrian moped after being outsped by the moped.
I'm starting to suspect I might win the DW Off-Topic-Member-Of-the-Month award, this time around.

Re: Drums. Art or Science?
Another good one, Abe! My take is this:
Drumming in a musical context needs to have an artistic approach for the music itself to work well (hence the term 'artists' on a stage and not...

Re: R.I.P.: Mitch Mitchell
Ooh... good call, Jay! The typical tendency would be to play like a slow waltz or some kind of shuffle but Mitch does it all while maintaining the rock feel.

Bummer! The mood he set with his playing that perfectly complemented Jimi's on All Along the Watchtower was good enough for me to place him in an elite group of drummers.

Sounds to me like it's:

The italicized letters represent where he opens the hats slightly. Of course, he changes it up when it segues to the next section.
