Re: Most resonant / warm drums?

Let me add that the Ludwig "clear maple" drums (c1969-1975) have a great vintage vibe, without quite the warmth of the mahogany, but they're very punchy with good sustain (as long as the edges are...

Re: Most resonant / warm drums?

In my mind, those are somewhat conflicting statements. Jazz was certainly warm & sustainy back in the day, but I've never known fusion to need drum sounds like that.

For warmth and sustain, which...

Re: Cutting down services?

I'll second Bill Detamore, and if he doesn't have time, try Chris Heuer (he's in Glendale.) Tell 'em I sent you. Um, maybe not.

Re: Ebay dissapointment

Over the last 6 or 8 years or so, ebay has become all about protecting the buyer. If the seller won't make good or gives you any grief, ebay will absolutely take care of you, and penalize the seller...

Re: The 2 products that struck me at NAMM

Long story about the cymbals, and drums.

Not a secret about Masterwork making the cymbals, that's how they started when they were Buzin and being sold through a shop in L.A. called Drum...

Re: Ludwig's new Signet 105 drum line!

Yeah, there wasn't a change as I had thought there might be. But I'm still digging mine, and they shined at NAMM.

Re: club date se

'Budget' is sort of relative, I guess it depends on the particular brand. One company's lower line prices may not be close to another's, and the differences between those and the 'pro' lines vary as...

Re: club date se

It's a different edge than Ludwig has done before (at least in the last 70 years or so,) so it's not really copying the classic 1/8" rounded edge & 30 bevel. The sound is warm and punchy though,...

Re: NAMM 2015: Premier 'The Beast' Snare

Saw that at their (main) booth... kind of 'corporate steampunk' IYKWIM. I gave it a light tap, and it sounds like a good, albeit very ordinary snare.

Re: Ludwig's new Signet 105 drum line!

The bass drum height is fairly subjective. I prefer it a bit lower, although I've seen it higher as well. I think they sort of chose a height they thought would work best for everyone. You're right,...

This forum, meeting each other

Forums like this have great potential to introduce and connect people, I guess the word networking applies, although it's not clinical as the word sometimes applies.

I realize after meeting Larry...

Re: NAMM 2015 - what do you expect to see?

Well, in the context of the kit, they're giving a nod to the original concert toms, size-wise as well. these are not the more common "power" concert toms that Ludwig and other companies have been...

Re: Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz here!

Well, 82 dates is hardly mind-numbing (as the article states) but that's not the final number anyway, it will be over 100. :)

Re: Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz here!

Link not working, but yep - gonna be a pretty comprehensive tour this time, and where there are some obvious gaps, there are dates waiting to be announced. :)

Re: NAMM 2015 - what do you expect to see?

So, two things at NAMM...

Nice for Ludwig to put me on a display poster in the booth! I'm very flattered!! :)

And, in addition to the fabled mahogany kit (which is sounding GREAT even without...

Wow, that's a few years old, I figured he'd given up on it. I tried signing up and creating a profile and it didn't 'take'. Will check it out again.

Essentially, the parody itself may be regarded as fair use, but the instant you try to sell the new work, the writer(s) of the original song have to be compensated. The permission process helps...

Re: Is this a vintage 6.5" X 14" Ludwig Acrolite?

To start, Acrolites have bowtie/twin/jazzfest lugs, not the Imperial lugs on that drum. Also, it's unusual that a regular snare is converted to a Super-Sensitive (typically an SS is changed to a...
