Check out my Yamaha 9000 thread. I got the whole kit including two cymbal stands for 900/950 excluding a snare. So bass drum, 3 rack toms and a floor tom. Look around the used market and grab a...

Re: High School Practice Time

I've been through school and college over here (the equivalent I think?) and theres only one really logical thing that you can do to maximise both your drumming skills and success in future life....

Re: Problem with Stroke's Aim

I taught a guy recently who had this same issue, stuck him on some technique exercises of single stroke rolls, double stroke rolls and paradiddles and voila! His issue was sorted. I too had this...

Re: Flying Fingers Help

I think JohnW hit it right on the head! If you want to develop that technique properly then sure you can do it on your own and you might get it right but more importantly you might get it wrong. If...

Re: So who here thinks they are a good drummer?

I'm alright.

I'm not bad, but I still have much to learn and master! I'd consider myself good, but not outstanding or masterful etc.

I've still got a lot ahead of me, so I figure if I look...

Re: New kit on the way.

I almost got conned on a set a few months back, but luckily I got out of that one!

I've always loved the sound of them, and when this one popped up then I couldn't resist! The only thing it lacks...

New kit on the way.

A lot of people ask for advice here and then show pictures when they actually receive this kit. Well this time I want to make you lot guess the kit, see if any of you get it right, and then post...

Re: Restoring with a material wrap-finish

It might not be the overruling opinion, but I like it. I mean, I really like it!

Did you cut the fabric to fit the hardware, or just drill a hole for the hardware bolts and screw it on top of the...

Re: Limited Edition Mapex Saturn, Sienna Fade, Maple Burl/Birch/Walnut kit!

This drum kit looks spectacular! Theres a 5 piece Mapex Saturn set up in my local drum shop, and I really get what you mean by the 'love for walnut'...I have never seen a more beautiful interior on a...

Re: christmas presents

I didn't actually receive any drum gear for christmas this year which makes a nice change :) However with some of the money I received I upgraded the tension rods on my snare drum from matt black...

Re: Choosing Acoustic Drums to last from Grade 1 to Grade 8

Okay, well I too decided that I would take the graded approach to playing drums alongside band work, and have had two seperate kits during that time.

My first was a Sonor Force 505 with the...

Re: Hitting the 'Buy Now' Button - Gretsch Renown - Help

Gretsch Renowns are killer drums, so I say pull the trigger on them for sure if it's what you've been after for months!

Paiste signature darks are also killer cymbals, but cymbals are far more of...

Re: Honey Don't by the Beatles

As Gruntersdad said, it sounds like a straight 4/4 beat to me, the bass is shuffling, but to my ears the drums aren't. Although I guess they could be played with a shuffle if you wanted :)

Re: QUESTION FOR YAMAHA GURUS

Why not break the large kit down, into 2 smaller kits that you can sell individually? Thats probably what I would do, although I may take some flak for that statement :P

Re: Pearl Export EX or Pearl Vision VBL

I personally would chose the Vision VBL over the export anyday, because I love the tones that birch give off. However if you're willing to look for second hand gear on ebay and craiglist etc, then...

Just gunna throw the floor tom to the left of the hats approach...It's what I'm doing at the moment and makes for some interesting rhythms :)

Re: Is it me or is this incredibly cheeky?

I would have just said very simply, "You're not lending cymbals, I'm not lending cymbal stands."

New band, debut gig.

So upon starting college I formed a new band, we only rehearse once a week but we've got a good sound going and we all have fun at the same time. It's a four piece band consisting of a Vocalist/Lead...

Re: How to teach lefty kid?

I started drumming with my best friend who was a lefty, we both learnt on the same kit, we both were equally matched in skill levels, so I say just stick her on a kit and see if she can play right...

Re: Favorite Configuration(s)?

At the moment I really dig playing a 5 piece, but if I had the time to work it all out I'd love to switch the drums out to a 4 piece. I love the look of a 4 piece, but the versatility of a 5 piece is...

Re: Snare x Hi-Hat height x Throne ratio

I do the same, I always try to have my hi hats as low as possible, yet they always have to be high enough so I dont clash sticks. I also have to have my throne in the position where I dont hit my leg...

Well if you love the sound of these drums, and you dig the big kit finish, then I say pull the trigger and get the add ons!

Re: New set for summer. Acrylic or Wood????

I'm just going to explain this situation exactly the way I see it, sorry if it's harsh but it's the truth. I'm 16, so not much older than you.

You have a Gretsch catalina maple, you want to splash...
