Re: Playing Vintage Drums

Does anyone know where to get the nylon straps (if that's what they are) to replace the og ones?

I seem to remember seeing them somewhere online but now I can't find them.

Thanks

Re: The Ludwig Acrolite

I have what I believe to be a late 70's or 80's Acrolite.

I have never been thrilled with the sound of it though.

I put new heads and new wires on it a while back and still didn't like it.

Re: Playing Vintage Drums

It's a 14" rim.

I measured it.

I think I'm going to take it apart and clean it up and re-assemble it.

It has a strainer on both the top and bottom heads. :-/

Re: Playing Vintage Drums

I bought it mainly out of curiosity.

Maybe it's my way of getting my feet wet in the collector drum world.

I'm not looking to flip it.

I want to keep it and I would love to be able to play...

It's a CG Conn from the late 20's or 30's I guess.

Playing Vintage Drums

First off: I'm not a collector or am I very knowledgeable about collector drums.

I just want to know how many guys who are collectors will actually play their drums?

Do you restore them to...

Re: Classic maple kit ordered!!

Just the other day I was just playing a friends kit with a 20x24 kick.

That thing was both massive and awesome.

It definitely had a huge low end thump. :-)

Re: Support your local music store!

I would support a local shop if we had one.

Guitar City and SamAsh is all we have left after they ran the locals out of business.

Re: Collecting snares

I have 8 snares from Ludwig, DW, Yamaha, Pearl and Tama.

My favorite one is one that I made myself.

It looks and sounds better than any of my other snares. :-)

Re: Monroe, NC - Ludwig Factory

Yeah, I remember those guys. lol

Reliable was my place.

They've been closed for 10 years now.

The drum set I play today came out of there.

Donny Marshal and Tom Whilhelm were the drum...

Re: Monroe, NC - Ludwig Factory

Yeah, I know the story.

McFaydins was one of several we had when I was a kid.

Myers, Tillmans, Reliable, US Music

It seems like there were others.

They are all gone.

Re: Monroe, NC - Ludwig Factory

I've lived in Charlotte for 42 years and I have played the drums for 25 of those years but I have never been to that plant.

There are no "drum" shops in Charlotte.

We don't even have a home...

Re: trouble with rudiments after almost ten years...

I played for years on 7a's.

Then I took lessons from a "real" teacher.

The first thing he said to me was "let me see those sticks".

He said "7a's!!! Man look at your hands, you need bigger...

There is a Ludwig factory close to Charlotte in Monroe NC.

I see a lot of Ludwig drums that say Ludwig Monroe NC on the badge.

I've never been there but it would be cool to stop by for the...

Re: Snare Project

So far so good.

I like the way it sounds.

It sounds like a snare should.

I haven't settled down on the tuning yet.

I'm trying to keep it kinda low.
