Re: Louder with or without port?

No measurements. To my own ear , I'd agree with you, that a port reduces some of the lower end frequencies you get out of the bass drum.

Re: Musically, what are you involved with at the present?

Interesting. Seger used the renowned Muscle Shoals rhythm section on much of his music. I always saw Roger Hawkins as a straight-up excellent drummer (not a mindless one) and who served Segers tunes...

Re: Hi hats and air lock, no luck.

Re: What's My Next Move?

Many/some cities have rental rehearsal spaces, some with PA. So you can rent the space for 3 hours or so, and everybody chips in. Nice neutral ground.
If not that maybe a night in your garage to...

Re: Hi hats and air lock, no luck.

Airlock - the hi hat cymbals don;t sit tightly when let down to make the 'chick' sound. I have to beleive Larry that at least a few of you have exprienced this.

In my experience it is favoured...

Re: Jim Gordon

Didn't know Johnny Rivers was so rockin'!
I discovered my wife has CD's of the Derek&Dominoes1970 Fillmore show - not sure how she got them. Wow, what a show. I'd even say Jim's playing way...

Re: NFL Asks Musicians for Money to Play Super Bowl Read more: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne

I like this thread, it's very educational. I am no businessman, and had no idea the NFL was tax-free. What a scam.

Unfortunately, I fear some hard-up sucker is going to pay the NFL for the...

Re: Potential drummer; have a maybe controversial question

It's all about desire and joy. Do you have the desire? Then save your money get a cheap drum kit and go for it.
If you have the desire for just playing, even good or bad, it will bring you joy.
The...

Re: worth it?

well 'retail therapy' is short lived, soon comes the sellers regret.
they're your drums, your money but why ask everybody when you know you're going to sell anyway?

Me as well. Complete turn off, and most of the talk is of contracts. Ho hum...did Kobe earn 10 or 15 million this time? Watching junior and college sports can be just as entertaining.

But selling...

Re: Ginger Baker Turns 75: The Strange Life of Rock's Wildest Drummer

what i meant is I separate his *drumming* (patterns, chops etc.) from the sound of his drums. i'd agree with you the recorded sound of his drums on Cream tracks is not great. as to whether one likes...

Re: Liveliness in playing

Watch a clip of Steve Jordan or Charlie Watts. Do you think they are worrying about 'Moeller heights' or 'body movement' while grooving along?

Think less, feel more, just play and be yourself.

Re: Ginger Baker Turns 75: The Strange Life of Rock's Wildest Drummer

Don't forget it's recorded in 1966 in a 4 track studio, and a producer/engineer is responsible for many sounds that come out of a studio anyway. Really good drum sounds don't start showing up until...

Re: NFL Asks Musicians for Money to Play Super Bowl Read more: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne

A big NO. Ridiculous, ....money, money, money.

Personally, I never found the Superbowl appearances of any band all that great from a musical stand point.

Re: Ginger Baker Turns 75: The Strange Life of Rock's Wildest Drummer

Best line in article:
"If a plane went down and there was one survivor, it would be Ginger," Elizabeth Ann Baker, his first wife, told the Rolling Stone. "The devil takes care of his own."

Some...

Re: Does anyone actually like big finales?

My band does it on the end of one tune, all the time. Personally I agree it's a rock n' roll cliche, but it suits some shows quite well. I like the quiet ending for some folks and the big bang for...

Re: Bad hi-hat recording

Re: I Want to Gig!

Good luck to you, but in the interest of helping you I'd have to say your ad could be a bit of a turn off to some. It's too strong and you come off a little bossy (even though I'd guess you're not)....

Re: Help me choose which thread to read about which kit to buy

There is no easy way. Of course there is bias, like in every review out there on anything.

Research and scan through them all, and in the end its mainly up to your budget, your tastes (blue vs....
