Re: Best Drum Track Of All Time

I still stand by this. For those who haven't heard it: Pick it up - LISTEN - and tell me that's not an *amazing* STUDIO drum track, from a jazz album in '64.

Oh Em Gee

Re: In over your head ?

I don't remember trying to delete the thread. I don't remember throwing any "NAMM" specific parties. (E3 is another story...) Maybe...

What a strange and placating tone you've developed.

Re: In over your head ?

"had to be just about the coolest indie club in the city"

We were. The new downtown is a little different. Less "wild west" kind of stuff. It's still great - but...different.

The only stuff...

Re: In over your head ?

without getting into the #'s ($) - Rashied was a friend of a friend - a trumpet player out here, who told him about the venue. Rashied thought there weren't many places - or any at all - that he'd be...

Re: In over your head ?

Actually, Matthew - you don't *need* to put down any kind of deposit. Not when you've been friends with him for just about 10 years. He was touring with his group Tarbaby - and had a gig with Dave...

Re: Sad about cymbals

Seriously - do not ask for money - it will make everything awkward. And he will just simply say "I didn't do that - they were there before" or even "are you serious?"

What's he going to do? "Oh...

Re: In over your head ?

Not to turn this into an LA thread...but:

Todd - I don't know Rashied's son. I only knew about his father. I could make some phone calls over the weekend and try to find out.

Aydee - hey man!...

Re: Sad about cymbals

You keep saying this... I have many thin cymbals (not expensive ones) that I have dented all over. They are broad dents - done by wood. You keep hitting something and they will give.

Actually -...

Re: In over your head ?

Yeah - definitely. Musically, I've definitely regressed out here. I'd take 22 yr old me over me right now - at least technique/inventiveness-wise. There *are* some people out here worth a damn though...

Re: In over your head ?

Always been in over my head. Any time I thought I was doing something great, or on the path to being great - I would hear a new music - a new drummer - and realize I was nothing.

I was getting...

Re: Free jazz information on the internet

There are hundreds of jazz threads here in the discussion section and technique section that could help you.

I just wonder if someone who somehow missed all these threads all over this site will...

Re: THE "BIG" JAZZ THREAD

Miles still had some great stuff in him after the 70's. Pick up Tutu. That's his last classic track, IMNSHO. There's a great live tribute album led by Wallace Roney (I think) that has a GREAT...

Re: About to go buy Roc N Soc throne at lunch...Anything else I should consider?

What'd you have for lunch?

I've had a basic RocNSoc 12-13 years now. Bought the back, but I can't play with that stupid thing. But I have the option later when my back eventually goes out.

Re: How flashy is too flashy?

He's TOTALLY at the right gig.

Have you people not been at a wedding before? People are dancing, drinking, having a good time - if they glance over at the drummer: "Hey that's hilarious! Let's...

Riley's books are good, but if I could only have one book, it would be the Alan Dawson book. The title is...The Complete Teachings of Alan Dawson or something like that. It's in my car right now...

Re: How flashy is too flashy?

I love that guy. A buddy of mine was like "Have you seen the 'Subtle Drummer'?" And I'm thinking it's some cool documentary on Ed Thigpen or something and he shows me and I couldn't stop laughing....

Re: THE "BIG" JAZZ THREAD

Funny that you say you like jazz with electronic influences and then backtrack and say you still like Miles: he was one of the dudes who started it all, man! He forced Hancock to play an electric...

Re: E-drums too loud for neighbor

There *are* renter rights. Most places allow sound (within reason) up until around 10pm or so. Playing around 9 and being the new guy (not knowing there's a little girl upstairs trying to sleep etc)...

Re: Sad about cymbals

So what's the end result? Are you gonna say "you owe me some cymbals" 'cause of the dents? That seems a little over the top. You open with saying you can't really do anything about it, and then say...

Re: Are you a musician stereotype?

Guess it depends on the situation for each drummer.

My band - the guitarist wants to rehearse to the point where me and the singer feel it's unnecessary. The songs are fine - and even though the...
