I've got 6 of their Deluxe 24" Cymbal bags. Great bags, wouldn't buy anything else.

Re: The best reasons to become a drummer?

I dig the chicks, my fingers are too soft for them damn strings and I'll be damned if I blow into anything for a sustained period of time.

Drums rock! And the gear is sweet too.

Re: Drummers around 5'6" - What size drums do you have?

I use a 22x16 with a rack and the 8" deep toms. 20 would be sweet for height but I liked the sound of the 22 traditionally. I may still end up grabbing a 20 though.

Re: Who started 'here' long before they went 'there'?

I played in the orchestra, in our school system you could be in orchestra at 2nd grade, but not band until 5th grade. I didn't start playing at school until 8th grade. Since I was in a city orchestra...

Re: What's the oldest drum gear you own?

My Ufip Bravos are probably the oldest thing I own made in probably the 70s or 80s. I have a recording custom but it's 2013 vintage

Re: Upgrade cymbals or drums first?

Typically cymbals. Head choices and tuning give a range of workability to most any set.

Re: The Age-Old Question.. Birch or Maple?

I have one, its beastly. Even if you don't play it, you can be like Buddy and set your drink on it :)

Re: The Age-Old Question.. Birch or Maple?

I'll add one other comment. I hate both 8 and 13" toms. 8's are too small for me to hit, and 13's never fit in right with a 10/12/14/16 setup.

If I were you, I'd either get the 8 if you think it...

Re: The Age-Old Question.. Birch or Maple?

I'm with TheHeel, Yamaha birch all the way. I like Maple too, but Yamaha just makes such solid drums its hard not to recommend them at any price point.

Re: Stuff that you took too long to learn

Foot technique. Cross hand technique. Basic stuff I still am figuring out. If I try to play heel up with both feet I basically almost fall off the throne. Much more comfy heel down on the hats.

Re: Are you a drum person or a cymbal person

In terms of playing I could be happy with a small four piece and a couple cymbals or on my big rig. In terms of collecting I'm much more a cymbal guy. Although between gretsch USA custom and kumu I...

Re: The worst drum /cymbal purchase you ever made

I got some crazy heavy clangy K/Z hats in the 90s I hated. Runner up was my too heavy A Custom projection ride.

Re: Groove Analysis Help (A Lot Like Birds)

Thanks Joe. This is not my genre either, but I was introduced to them by a custom snare builder, who wanted to show me an example of his friend using the snare. Fell in love with this particular...

Re: Hanging Toms vs. Floor Toms - Yamaha Hexrack

I have a hex rack II and recording customs. I Use the 14 and 16 with legs and wouldn't go any other way. Can't beat the stability or sound and if you want to pull out a small four piece you still can

Groove Analysis Help (A Lot Like Birds)

I'd like to learn this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1ZGOVH2trc) song, I think its awesome. Truly Random Code.

Here's the deal, I suck at breaking up grooves (busy grooves) and learning them....

Re: Best Advice You've Been Given

Probably something along the lines of "don't be afraid to try".

It applies to drums as well as life. I missed out on some good years playing the kit in HS and college, because I felt I wasn't...

I bought a full set of UFIP Bionics

Also got a fairly rare 22 ufip experience vintage ride in Original finish. Sort of a big band type ride.

Re: THE CLASSIFIEDS - For Sale / Wanted

14 UFIP Class Heavy Hats $185

Great "New Beat" type sound, but in a little bit heavier package for louder projection. Plays great, extremely versatile. Logos wiped off on this one.
