Re: How do you know when to crash?

I just watched a bunch of videos from Vinnie and his take on it is "Always". And it is always tasteful! What a drummer.

I humbly sport 2 crashable rides and an extra dry china out of sight on my...

Re: I wonder if Neil Peart will ever play again?

I am with you on this, I meant playing at home, light studio work, whatever makes him happy. Just not hanging the sticks for good.

Re: Jazz Fusion fans - Help with finding a band

Mammal Hands !

And it is not a clarinet but a straight sax.

I love their Quiet Fire album, so relaxing.

Thanks for your help, sorry for the annoyance.

Re: Jazz Fusion fans - Help with finding a band

I did, been trying since yesterday. It's like they disappeared ! I even tried intersecting with canopus, tabla, modern fusion, etc. I will get it though, they seemed well-known at the time with...

Jazz Fusion fans - Help with finding a band

Hi guys !

A band caught my attention last year on the spotify State of Jazz playlist (does not seem to be there anymore).

It is a trio, keys - alto clarinet I think - drums

The drummer is a...

Re: I wonder if Neil Peart will ever play again?

I have so much respect for those who try to the end like Phil and Alan. Not a great sight for the fans obviously but who cares About appearances and "saving face"? To me it shows personal...

Re: Tool "Sober" drum fill/Sheet music

Remember when we had to figure all this out by ourselves without youtube cheats ?

Sure you can.

Start now and practice until you get it right.

Kind of like everything drum related.

Keep calm and tune on.

Re: Namm 2019 rumors

I own a set of both Hybrids and RCs. I agree with your point and enjoyed your rant, but the RCs (and amh) are absolutely not overpriced. Quite the opposite IMHO.

I got mine for under 4000$cad...

Re: What to do?

I would gig the hybrids as they are considerably lighter and sound awesome (I schlep mine in soft cases, no issue).

You wont scuff'em, or maybe just a little, but that is part of a drum kit's...

Re: Ludwig 7 ply mahogany/poplar vs 3-ply mahogany with re-rings

I'm 100% with you on the mix and match. Let us keep in mind it might hurt resale if it is at all a concern (I kind of gave up on the idea myself, I say use 'em and toss 'em, but I understand someone...

Re: Tony Williams

Great find for me as well, thank you both.

The clarity of Tony's playing in both contexts really sheds yet more light on the uniqueness of his touch.

I am still having trouble discerning the...

Re: Finally! New Yamaha Recording Custom Wood Snares

I was thinking the same thing. With all due respect to drum companies and star drummers, for the high-end market I think a simple honest capture at different tensions would be more relevant -- thank...

Re: And the wood hoop project is complete!

I like it, and it probably has to do with the tom hoops being the same colour as the bd.

When bd hoops are a different colour than the wooden tom hoops it can look uneven, but you obviously did a...

Re: What brands holds their value the most

Gretsch and Ludwig, then DW, Yamaha, Tama and Pearl in about that order.

I don't invest in drums, I simply put them in tne expense column where they belong.

Learn from your forum brethren and...

Re: Is made in the US really that much better?

Depends on what "overseas" means. Labor laws and industrial environmental standards are much stricter in Canada, Most of Europe, and possibly Japan, than they are in the country mentionned in the...

Gretsch broadkaster bop kit
More recently a Carter Mclean George Way acacia kit

A full set of Agop cymbals...

Re: Who's got the best brand name...

Most original name in drums imho with both sex and evil appeal is the zildjian oriental crash of doom. Besides everthing else, what a cool name ! Makes me want to hit it before it hits me.

Re: Tama Star Drums - Bubinga, Maple and Walnut In-depth Review

Again, thanks for the comparison, as drummers and customers this is highly beneficial.

I personally preferred the sound of maple and walnut, but would be hard-pressed to decide which one to end...
