For all practical purposes I use a 5pc with 2 crashes, a ride and some hats. I wouldn't want to gig with much more. I'm considering adding my own rack to manage my mics and monitoring though.

Interesting! I always thought the only reason to have a 16" bass drum was to play Jazz. I never considered trying to get a fat thumpy rock sound out of it. Sounds fun. Doesn't sound very doable...

Hmm. I'm not sure I agree with this one. I never break cymbals, sticks, or drum heads and I always have a build up of sawdust over time on and around my kit.
