Re: 2014 Chicago Drum Show, who's going?

I'll be there on Sunday! First time going, I'm really looking forward to perusing the Ludwig booth and checking out JoJo's clinic!

Re: Hiromi trio gig report. Simon Phillips, Anthony Jackson

Great review, I'm jealous! I've wanted to see them for some time now. What a simply stellar combination of musical minds.

Re: Big Ludwig Kit Opinion

Go for it! Definitely talk the seller down, maybe even lower ($300-400) because of all the mods. Large-diameter 70s Ludwig FTs and BDs are pretty desirable (largely because of the "Bonham factor"),...

Re: Ludwig's new Signet 105 drum line!

I think the drums have a charming, unique and humble aesthetic that's all their own. In fact, they almost harken back to the days of Ludwig's rope-tension or single-tension lug drums in the way they...

Re: Ludwig's new Signet 105 drum line!

Because if they built a kit in America... with North American Maple shells... with regular lugs already assembled by American workers... you'd have a Classic Maple kit and you'd be paying upwards of...

Re: So what's up with Ludwig 2014

I should also add that I had a lot of fun playing the kit, it was very responsive, but didn't choke when I wailed on it. I think the kick could benefit from a porthole, but that comes down to...

Re: So what's up with Ludwig 2014

I stopped by Guitar Center in Villa Park, IL this morning. They had a kit in "Teak" finish setup, the sizes were approx. 9x12, 14x14, and 16x20 (with some little OCDP snare).

The kit SOUNDS...

Re: 1976 Ludwig Vistalite- Clear

Hmm. I just noticed, the tom mount on the kick drum seems to be a bit off center. Could this be a non-factory add-on?

Re: 1976 Ludwig Vistalite- Clear

Awesome kit! Loving the Mach lugs- serious mojo! Personally, I wouldn't sell it. If it has matching serial numbers and no cracks, I'd imagine it's pretty much only going to go up in value as long as...

Re: Some help with Nicko McBrain fills and licks?

Nicko's playing is very hard to emulate, especially when you hear all the subtleties and ghost notes he's playing on those "drums-only" tracks! However, Nicko's "bag of tricks" when it comes to...

Re: NAMM 2014 rumors/whishes

Not at all. I did not say "you are lying", nor did I imply it.

You said you weren't sure if Ludwig outsourcing their drumhead production was a truth or falsehood. I merely replied by saying it was...

Re: NAMM 2014 rumors/whishes

It'll be interesting to see how Ludwig approaches the customizability of this new Signet series. If they're only offering one finish and a couple shell packs initially, it'll be hard for them to...

Re: NAMM 2014 rumors/whishes

Not true. Ludwig makes their "Weathermaster" heads (silver dots, coated, clear, heavy, medium, thin, etc. etc.) in-house. On lower-end lines, Ludwig has used cheap Evans and cheap Remos at various...

Re: An already great day gets better -- free drums for me!

Great story so far, I'm always in awe of guys who bring back classic kits like this from the brink of death! I'm excited to see how they turn out! Love that finish too.

Just one thing, though: the...

Re: At what point did this seem like a good idea?

Am I the only one that thinks it's freakin' awesome :D A throwback to 80's excess! Gimme an hour with "Powerslave" and I could have a ton of fun on that kit.

Bermuda, could the concert toms simply...

Re: Huge Ludwig collection FS - help needed

Most of those look like Rockers (black and white badge). Not terrible drums, thin maple/poplar shells, but the hardware is iffy (I have a set myself, so I know first hand :P ). Not a whole lot of...

Re: Calling all Gretsch experts!

Thanks guys! I'm gonna go take some closer looks at the kit soon, Artstar, I certainly HOPE the shells are in round, lol! Either way, the drums sound great miced up. Strange, I'd never considered...

Re: Calling all Gretsch experts!

When did Gretsch switch from Jasper to straight maple shells? I mistakenly called the badge a stop sign- it's actually a "square badge" as I've seen them called. Didn't they switch the shell layup...

Right, the kit I linked to isn't the one I'm considering, that's just the closest looking kit I could find for sale on the net at the moment. Thanks for the shell info, and Good suggestion on the...

Calling all Gretsch experts!

Right-o. I've got a chance to buy a lovely 80's (I think) Gretsch kit in a deep red lacquer, which I believe might be Rosewood. 8, 10, 12 power toms, 14x14 and 16x16 floors, 20x16 kick and a 14x6.5...

Re: Whatever happened to the Ludwig phosphor bronze snare?

The LM305 (5x14) and LM306 (6.5x14)! I don't think it was billed as a "rocker", but it shared the same old black and white badges. Import, seamed bronze shell. I've never played one, but I do agree...

Re: Now this is just gorgeous new Ludwig goodness

Here's another new finish they're going to be offering, called "Burned Natural polygloss", found this while lurking on drumforum.org.

Also looks like we've got some rather bulky new tom/FT leg...
