Re: Hoop comparison video from Tama

I just sent an email off to where I bought mine to see if Tama or they can help me out in some way. I'll let you know if anything positive comes from it.

Re: What drum kit is this? - Plus my vote for greatest Drummer Photo ever

Great photo. One of my brothers bands "Pacific Cross" toured with Buddy Miles Band back in the early 70s.

Re: The New Tama Starclassic Walnut/Birch

Seems like B/B could grow in value, not that I care, because I'll be keeping my kit till I die (too good).

Re: Custom Graphic Bass Drum Heads

Found the gift card for $49 through Woodwind and Brasswind (https://www.wwbw.com/Evans-Inked-by-Evans-Custom-Bass-Head-Gift-Card-H68562-H68562000000000.wwbw).

Re: Custom Graphic Bass Drum Heads

I thought Inked by Evans was expensive. Get a gift card off Amazon for $70. Mine was a custom picture using a picture I took and it turned out fantastic.

Re: Middle tom doesn't resonate

So... a drummer has two ears (most anyway), and each ear may (will) have a different frequency response curve which could account for positional sensitivity of the toms.

Re: Hoop comparison video from Tama

I agree. I'm not a hard hitter either and I never use sticks over 5A (and mine are maple at that). Who do we call?

Re: Hoop comparison video from Tama

Thank you! I was thinking of ordering an extra rim just in case.... ;)

Re: Hoop comparison video from Tama

I have to qualify this with the fact that custom brass rim is on the Tama hand hammered copper snare and it is 8 hole instead of 10 like all of my other snares, so I'm not sure how much is the rim...

Re: Hoop comparison video from Tama

One thing I've noticed that hasn't been mentioned is cross stick which to me sound much better (and easier to get a good crack ) on cast hoops then anything else I've tried.

Re: Hoop comparison video from Tama

The customized mighty brass hoops (shaved down), I think are the hoops that came with my Star Reserve HH Copper snare. I love the sound, but the rims are soft enough that I've noticed some marring...

Re: Cajon recommendation

I have a Kopf (https://www.kopfpercussion.com/) and it sounds fantastic and is a beautifully made instrument.
I recently got a PR video link from them (bought my cajon a couple years ago).
It's a...

I watched Rena Beaves a couple nights ago...

...with the Carlos Montoya band and what a great, solid, player. The band was fantastic. The venue was small and intimate, and the sound system was good. Rena's playing was incredibly tasteful, and...

Re: Rimshots on die cast hoops

I like it! ;)
So do hoops play as big a roll in the sound of a drum as the shell? It definitely affects the sound more than most people realize.

Re: Rimshots on die cast hoops

All the snares I own, up until recently, are die-cast (top side at least) and then I bought a Tama HH Copper snare with custom machined triple flange 2.3 brass hoops. Previous snares... 8" birch...

Re: Struggling with Renowns

I suspect die cast hoops will accentuate any defects in either the hoop or the drum bearing edge. As previously mentioned, die cast won't flex as much as triple flange, but if the drum bearing edge...

Re: Picked up a Mapex V series Jazz Kit...

What a score! Nice you have a dad that checks out the flea markets. I have been to one of those in decades.

Re: Die cast (again?)

Top die cast and bottom triple flange is what Tama did on the SC model and it sounds great. I'm not sure how much difference a die cast would make on the bottom. I also have a Tama Dynamic Bronze...

Re: Calling All Mapex Saturn Experts

The paint job looks great, but more importantly... how do they sound together. ;)
