Re: 2015 RRHOF inductees. Congrats Ringo!

Agreed 100% on Chicago! They should make it on their first 7-8 albums alone, despite/regardless of their major shift towards sappy ballads........

Re: How to handle this situation

As crappy as it may appear to many, mikel is dead on. It is his "business" and he is acting as an employer. It is not a true band as someone else mentioned, but it is an independent...

Re: When soundmen attack

Not sure of any of you have tried this (and I was initially skeptical!), but I have been micing my bass drum from the batter side for quite a while. it really gets a deep, full sound.

Re: so my band wants to do top 40s...

I have noticed over the years that many times songs that I really like to listen to are not always as enjoyable to play. Conversely, some songs that I really do not like or normally would not listen...

Re: Learning to play well on a 4 piece kit ....

I started/learned on an old four piece over fifty years ago and stayed there for probably fifteen years. I went to a five piece for another 15-20 years and much preferred it over the four. I thought...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Not sure what this means, but I think I agree!! My take on this is settle it like the old western days........Main street at high noon; bring your best drum sticks, dictionaries or whatever and end...

Re: More Creative on a Smaller Kit

I get what your saying Dr. Watso and I have been guilty of pressing that red button unnecessarily, especially when I was much younger! A majority of the music I play in one band could...

Re: Insulting a member on the bandstand

Well at least she attempted to count it off! :) When the question of tempo has come up in one of the bands I play in, I have ask the lead singer to count it off in the tempo he feels comfortable with...

Re: More Creative on a Smaller Kit

Although it's true that restricting choices forces creativity, exercising voices choice, is in itself, a creative move. It's how it's presented within the music that matters, not the mechanism...

Re: Insulting a member on the bandstand

Agreed 100%! Every time this topic has come up on here, I have always felt this the best way to handle it on stage. As someone else said earlier, work on temp at rehearsals, hopefully this will carry...

Re: Losing a Cymbal Wingnut at Tangelwood Live

Although the sound quality is rough by today's standards, this is a great vintage 1970 show of what the original Chicago band was and not what most think of when their name is mentioned. They were...

Re: Danny Seraphine

I am sure I was one of the few who commented in the old thread.....Danny (besides my dad) is. by far my greatest influence and my favorite drummer of all time. I finally got a chance to talk with him...

Re: Does anyone else hate splash cymbals?

This wasn't directed at you specifically and I should have gone with my first instinct which was to not even comment. Yes, I have seen many creative drummers play on minimal kits and make wonderful...

Re: Does anyone else hate splash cymbals?

This statement could also potentially lead to the whole big kit vs. small kit thing. That is, a drummer who doesn't have a "full accompaniment of drums" is like an artist who doesn't have all of the...

As someone who has spent most all of my career in hospitality management, I can attest that profit margins are slim as a general rule. Of course there are always exceptions and in the interest of...

Re: Argument with Guitarist over time signature

Kind of makes me happy that I am blissfully ignorant about all of this time signature debate! I am with him, I just sit down and hit things; most times it works out pretty well!

Re: Rock Gigs Not Very Rock Anymore?

Sorry you don't see/agree with my point of view. Perhaps it is different where you are or the places you play. I am mostly speaking of bar gigs, private parties, wedding receptions, etc., which is...

Re: Rock Gigs Not Very Rock Anymore?

This should probably go in the Unpopular Drummer's Opinion thread but, here goes. As someone who has been on both sides of the band thing for many years, that is, as management that hires bands and...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

I like the song until it gets to that part........they definitely could have left that out!! I agree though, they both have done some amazing work. Like so many others who died way too young, it...

With all due respect to both musical legends, I don't think either one of them had gotten to the methadone stage yet!

Re: Best 10 drum albums? How about the best 10 "live" drum albums?

Chicago Live at Carnegie Hall- Danny Seraphine at his best
Little Feat, Waiting For Columbus- Ritchie Heyward; always tasty playing
Frampton Comes Alive- not sure who the drummer was
Agree with...

Re: Tuning to pitches...yes? no?

Yep, this is the way I have always done it regardless of the number of toms I use. I wouldn't know a pitch pipe from a bong pipe; well that was a little extreme, I did grow up in the '60's and early...

Re: Abidextrous drumming...

Well, well over my head and ability to try and even count it, much less ever think I could learn to play it, but to my untrained ears........some of it sounds like a beginner just starting out....
