I'd like to add 2 things here

1. creativity has absolutely nothing to do with how many surfaces you play .... but ....if play less of them than you are used to you will find out how creative you...

because you get a mute and a fine tuned control that you do not get with your foot and you get the underneath techniques shown in both videos I posted

all completely common and just another way...

I spent many years transcribing full solos .... it was extremely beneficial in so many ways

I still transcribe sections that I find very interesting ...be it just some comping or a four or eight...

it's a 14x18 bass drum

here is a close up shot... you can see where the sleeve wasn't long enough so I just cut a piece of another one to make it more streamline
...

in 2004 a friend offered me a gig with a Lynyrd Skynyrd cover band
I'm not real big on cover bands but the pay was good so I took the gig .
they told me the original drummer quit and I thought...

been doing a very similar thing to what you have here since the early 90s with this record

no contact with the cymbal

my sleeves meet right up with the T top.... and when they don't I just cut a small piece off another sleeve..... just enough to cover the thread up to the T top
