Re: The X-factor in drumming

Personality would be a big one.

Yes, timing, the right attitude, etc are all very important. But I'd rather not be in a band with robot. Yeah, those guys are great for session, they're great for...

Re: My new line of custom cymbal stands.

My cowbell stand is a clamp and drumstick... I lost the rod a while ago and improvised. It works :)

Plus I get the extra playability of having the stick to tap. Or at least that's My excuse.

Re: UK national drum fair review. Vintage kits - lots of pictures

They were made like that. In the long history of drums there have been some crazy shapes and sizes.

In fact, I'm sure if you dig deep enough, you'll find a few in this forum ;)

Testing

Hey guys,

I've been testing products and such for a few years now, but never done anything drum or music related. I was wondering if anyone knew anyone looking, or a link to websites, or whatever...

Re: How to protect your ears while testing out gear?

I just use basic foam inserts you get at music venues for like 50p a pop. I used to work in one so I got a whole box which should last Me. If I don't have them on Me then I cup a hand over My ear....

Re: Thinking too much while playing (counting)

For Me it became internalised quite quickly but I still go back and just tap out the fours sometimes if I'm stuck.

Find the tempo and click out four with your drumsticks before playing. That's...

Re: How often do you break/drop your sticks?

The stick I had break due to bad grain was a Vic Firth 2BN... maybe Vic just had a bad batch of wood ><

Re: Bands with Two Drummers - Is There Really a Point?

Watched the Joe Bonamassa gig (Live at the Royal Albert Hall, ft. Eric Clapton) earlier on SkyArts and he had dual drummers.

Rather liked it. Nothing majorly special, each drummer did have their...

Re: Is your drumming so intense you need to use the hick maneuver to keep blood in your brain?

Hell yes!

And drumming in space... I wonder how much zero g would affect our playing? Probably not a lot but oh well.

Re: Dark Cabaret

Rozz is quoted as being like, one of the 80's preludes to DC. In the sense that that's the form of Goth that DC came from. But that's quite a story!

I've seen Voltaire, AFP and EA live, and I...

Re: Bands with Two Drummers - Is There Really a Point?

With Adam you have the two drummers doing different beats, or at least the gig I teched for him that's what happened. And with the band Holywood Undead you have one on acoustic, one on electric so...

Re: Top 10 "household name" drummers

This list would probably be my personal ones, not touching many of who you guys have mentioned. In no particular order:

Brian Viglione (NIN, AFP, Dresden Dolls, Voltaire and others)
Joey Jordison...

Re: Is your drumming so intense you need to use the hick maneuver to keep blood in your brain?

Perhaps all of our practice rooms should come with those g-force centrifugal spinner things that astronauts use. Ya know, just because we might need to be able to deal with black and white outs or...

Re: Taiko drummer - first questions on sound insulation

I'll intro by saying I have NO experience in the conditions or music you're discussing, but I'll throw in my own two pence in the vain hope I can help.

I have the rear half of a single garage in a...

Dark Cabaret

A genre that's been around since the early naughties, does anyone listen to or play within this genre? How do we feel about the drumming involved, or some of the names involved?

Artists involved...

Re: How often do you break/drop your sticks?

When I first started I went through maybe twelve pairs in the first yearish? Never really dropped them, but I must have done a few times because I switched to fingerless gloves after a while.

Four...

Re: Naming your kit - can you, would you, do you?

My kit is two kits combined into one. They're Huggin and Muninn; named after Odin's ravens and they always act as one, in balance; much like my kit I suppose.

Oddly however, one kit is easier to...

Re: The left handed aspect

I'm left handed and learnt on a right hand set up.

I now have My toms in a left hand set up, cymbals in a right hand set up, bass and hat right hand also.

I lead with My left and play both open...

Re: Musical Solutions Limited

Very nice... I live in Corby. My Mapex kit is in my garage where I practice every day haha.

Had to do a fair amount of work to make it a little better but yeah. It's definitely not ideal.

Re: THE DRUM MODIFICATION THREAD.

I don't change the heads, I use them till I need to change them (as I don't have the cash) and while I get used to the new drums. If I change kits and have decent heads on the older one, I might swap...
