Re: How do I know if I will stick with drums? Advice please.

Try this. Don't allow yourself to play anything for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, note which instrument you pick up first. See if that helps.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

The wait is excruciating isn't it? Everyone should have a Guru snare.

No walnut drums. Eww, I hate walnut drums. Who said anything about walnut drums? Perish the thought! Guru walnut drums suck...

Not important enough to matter here.

Re: How to stop playing slightly ahead of the beat?

Re-reading your OP, you indicate that this is mostly on unfamiliar stuff, and that with stuff you know, people say you have good time. You're doing the best possible thing by noticing your issue....

Re: How to improve speed and techniques

Welcome to the forum, good move coming here and asking.

Most everyone here will tell you to get your technique evaluated by a reputable teacher first. You want to insure you are using the sticks...

Re: Drumming in the pre digital age.

With anything you have to take the good with the bad. Referring to misinformation mainly. Regarding the internet, I feel the good outweighs the bad, by a stupid large margin. I'm far better off with...

Re: Blues jam session ... play simple - receive big applause

I subscribe to your theory. The easier it is for the audience to grasp what you're doing, the better you are to them. (assuming it all feels good) If they can decipher what you are playing, they can...

Re: Drumming in the pre digital age.

Funny, my limited impression of you was that you were one of the fortunate working pros who does it old school. I don't know how accurate that is. It's weird hearing you list things that you got here...

Re: How do I know if I will stick with drums? Advice please.

How will you know? You won't. You're acting like you will lose a toe if you give it up. It's a totally optional thing to do, and there's almost no downside.

Drums ARE fun. Don't overthink things,...

Re: When disaster strikes: Your opinion

I can't sit here and offer an opinion because I would not be in the same headspace as I would be if a fire were imminent. It depends on how much prep time I have after I get the fam sitched.

If I...

Re: Drumming in the pre digital age.

I'd like to hear people's stories when they drummed pre internet. Here's some random ramblings:

Got Bongos for Christmas 1967. I was 9. That and a bunch of Nehru shirts with gaudy medallions. I...

Re: Drumming in the pre digital age.

Geez thanks man golly garsh

I find this hard to believe. How can you not be influenced by it? You drum and think exactly the same as you did pre-internet? Not being combative, I just can't...

Re: One or two mids toms?

Very personalized setup. Everything is sooo close. I have to put that on the list of things to try.

Drumming in the pre digital age.

I was just sitting here considering the impact on myself as a drummer as a result of the internet. It is just collossal, gigantic, enormous, monumental, humungous , gargantuan....

Great...

Re: 10 lug bowties on a Supra?

OK I thought I might have found a rare Supra for a killer deal. I should ask the seller if a magnet sticks.

Re: 10 lug bowties on a Supra?

I'm wondering if it's a brass shell. I might buy it to flip it for a profit.

10 lug bowties on a Supra?

Seems like a killer deal here:

Re: One or two mids toms?

Wow Porter how did you get your 2 racks like that? Are you using a tom tree?

I don't recall seeing a kit set up like that before with the toms in a fairly straight line.

Re: How tense are you when you play?

I'm never nervous about performing before any gig though. Kinda glad about that. If I'm late and rushing, that has nothing to do with performance anxiety. Any tense-ness I do have while playing is...

Re: Chris Squire, Yes Bassist found dead

Anyone who slams bass players for playing with a pick....I give you the late great Chris Squire.

I heard he used to play out of guitar amps, at least early on....not sure how true that is though.

Re: Who inspires you the most?

I too have a major weakness for the drumming of the great Jim Gordon. So musical. Loved his musical choices.

Slight backpedal, another thing Jeff Beck said about Vinnie....(Apparently Jeff lets...
