Re: The return of the Gretsch COB!

I have the 5x14 and it's currently my favorite snare. I'll be gigging with it this weekend actually. I've been using my Supra and it's time to switch back to good ol' Gretsch.

Re: Funny the things that matter

Me too. Crooked logos drive me nuts. I center it between two lugs in the panel with the badge. I eyeball it though, not with a ruler or anything.

The extent of my "matching" these days is using...

Re: Your Moment of Glory

Opened for Bon Jovi in 2005. First and only large arena show. Never topped that one and will never forget the thrill of playing for that many people. Unfortunately the band disolved a few months...

Re: Funny the things that matter

I have had pedals that matched in the past but I don't remember it being something that was important to me. Now none of my pedals match. I don't have a single hi-hat that matches any of my pedals (I...

Re: I can't buy a high end snare drum

The last snare I bought was a like-new used Gretsch COB 5x14 for $300 and that's probably the max I would pay for a snare. Not a super high-end snare but high enough for me and it sounds great....

Re: The Choice to Play the Drumset

I think the whole choice thing is different for drums than it is for say piano which a lot of kids are forced to learn by their parents. Or at least they used to be (or is this a Hollywood fantasy?)....

Re: The Choice to Play the Drumset

It was my choice. The year was 1984. Upon entering junior high at a new school where they had a great music class with a wide array of instruments to choose from I was torn between guitar and drums....

Re: NDD: Gretsch Brooklyn Cream Oyster

Seriously. I have never custom ordered a kit. I'm an "off the rack" type of guy. And used. Mostly used because I'm not made of money.

Re: NDD: Gretsch Brooklyn Cream Oyster

Man, I love the cream oyster wrap. Of the Brooklyn finishes that's the one I would have chosen. I bought mine used in grey oyster which is still very nice but the cream is just so classy.

Although...

Re: Back to the future!

That kit is gorgeous! Love the glossy walnut.

I haven't kept up with all your purchases. Could you list all the kits you have? If you want to of course.

Re: New "quiet" drum kit !

Nice setup! I have the same kind of setup except on an old Pearl Export with Pearl mesh heads and the L80 hats and ride only. I might pick up a crash at some point but I'm not crazy about the crash...

Re: Ludwig P88AC Dilemma

I just realized I have the P32 dilemma too. It's one thing to make holes bigger but I don't trust myself to make new holes. I know I'll screw it up. It's going back. Really sucks because it's a great...

Re: Ludwig P88AC Dilemma

I should have mentioned, smaller screws are not possible because unlike the P85 the P88 and butt plate is tapped for threads from behind. So it's these screws or nothing.

Re: Ludwig P88AC Dilemma

I have a drill but might have to buy a bit. Do I need a special bit to drill metal? (Aluminum in this case)

I've drilled wood shells before but never metal.

Ludwig P88AC Dilemma

The other day I bought the new P88AC strainer for my '79ish LM400 Supra. I was excited to install it but was disappointed to discover that the holes in my snare are too small for the mounting screws....

Re: Finally sorted my catalina 14" floor tom

I got the Gibraltar hollow feet for my Cat Jazz floor tom a while back and it sounds great. I've found that this problem doesn't happen with every floor tom though. For whatever reason my Brooklyn...

Re: Shell Bank

I guess you could say I have a shell bank of Ludwig Club Date SE. I have two different size shell packs (12-14-20 and 13-16-22) in silver sparkle so I can and have mixed the two in various ways over...

Re: Gigging with a Ludwig Accent?

Nothing wrong with that at all. As long as the hardware holds up and everything functions as needed no one will care. I often gig with a Catalina Club which isn't much better (if at all) and it does...

Re: Woeful suckfest :(

Sorry to hear. Badly run events with delays are a huge pain. If things are running late obviously all the bands need to cut their set short to avoid cutting into the headline act. Talk about amateur...
