Re: Copper Hoops

Are these really massive copper? I'd think pure copper would be too soft to work as a hoop, but what do I know... 8 or 10 lugs?

Re: Creative/minimalist kick drum muffling ideas?

Yes, even if I prefer the (almost) unmuffled sound of the my kicks when practicing or playing unmiced rehearsals, most sound engineers prefer shorter tone -- and I will give it to them. The...

Re: Geeking out a little!

That is what I do. Wrap a small piece of gaffers tape around the spur (on the inside) .. and done!

I love these simple, lightweight legs.

Re: Should I buy this HipGig Kit?

And, even when we know this wasn't his cymbals, I'd still be happy take care of these for $200.

Re: Deep bass drums

I'm not saying this might not be true, but I'd wan't someone to do a double blind test of this. I know I couldn't feel any difference between otherwise identical 20" and 16" deep bass drums.

Re: Reunited with Oak Customs

I just love the subtle Yamaha logo on that BD head! That's the way to do it, if you absolutely got to have a brand front head.

Re: What drums intrigue you that you have NEVER owned

Wacco rope tensioned drums. Finnish company, beautiful workmanship and good sound (only heard them once, played at a festival). Would like to try out the concept.

Re: Finally! New Yamaha Recording Custom Wood Snares

I think the kits (especially the toms) from the old RC series are much more popular than the snares. Around here you can often find the old RC snares at decent prices, while the toms/BDs are getting...

Re: New Drums from Mapex

Not easy to see from the video, but we can guess from the marketing images: overengineering aŽla Sonor, maybe?

Re: 36" kick?

I'd like to see a picture with someone sitting behind that kit. Just to get some proportions. Geesh.

Re: Most Random bit of equipment that's failed at a gig

Does trousers count? No, the trousers didn't fail, not in the way one might think...

But I was dressing up for a gig with a pair of chinos I hadn't used before, sporting slightly shorter but...

Re: Vintage Yamaha 8000

No, not yet another thread about Yamaha 8000... Must. Resist. GAS!

These drums, in this color, must be amongst the nicest instruments ever built. Congratulations!

Re: Tom angles!!!!

You won't accidentally hit the wrong tom, that's for sure. And those "long tom runs" suddenly became something verbatim.

Re: The ALUMINUM Snare thread.

Well, not necessarily: "Sir Humphry made a bit of a mess of naming this new element, at first spelling it alumium (this was in 1807) then changing it to aluminum, and finally settling on aluminium in...

Re: Neck pain from looking at music stand

If you cannot have it to the left of the hihat, raise it and put it over the hihat (just to the left of the tom). If that is too ugly or doesn't help maybe you need to check your posture or have a...

Re: So there's no such thing as an 11" tom...

Even if you found one (as many have said, they were made), you'd have a really hard time finding heads for it.

Just go 10-13-16. I have been doing that for quite some time now and love it!
