Re: What's your latest purchase?

What does your wife play? My better half plays brass. Next time I want to spend some change on myself I'll spoil her with a new brass instrument or a mute and she'll ignore my purchases for a while....

Re: Hiring drummers for a project, need drummer advice.

I don't think John read the OP's post correctly. Either that or "on the back end" means something different to him.

I think anyone would be ok with being paid half up front/half after.

Re: Cutting down drums

Dre, if you're slicing .5" off each tom then you'll need new, shorted tension rods for each side.

Personally, I would just slice the kick down to a much more manageable 14" depth. You won't lose...

Re: Got called for a Session, YAY! Gear Upgrade?

I'd go for the ride. That way you have a darker ride and a brighter one to cover more ground. I don't care for the sound of aluminum snares and you already have an acro so I'd say pass on the Supra....

Re: rare yamaha stage custom ive bought

Poor OP, are you trying to cling on the that "Rare" pitch stave off the buyer's remorse? You got a great kit, I live in the US so I can't comment on how good the price was. It is not a rare kit...

Re: Don't do that!

Why doesn't anyone ever offer me beer for lessons? That sounds like a great arrangement.

Re: Versatile DW Snare

I tried a 14x5 or 5.5 DW Super Solid snare in my local GC the other day. Found it bright and severely lacking in body. I'll bet you could score a similar sound in a 13" steel snare with a muffled...

Re: What's the best pedal technique study?

I'll bet it was Amodo. Technique threads offend his delicate New Yorker sensibilities.

Re: Cutting down marching drums

Go for it. Don't worry about getting more than one drum out of the shell, just get your drum guy to pick a choice piece of shell then cut it down to your desired depth.

I have 2 snares that...

Re: How do you not hear your bass drum?

What other products are there out there besides the Buttthumper?

I know Bermuda has one and loves it but he also owns a...

Re: Where do all the drum sets go?

Shh!! Don't tell him that!

We'll wait for him to have a mid-life crisis in a couple years and then score some sweet vintage pieces for cheap.

Yea...a Black Beauty you say? Never heard of it old...

Re: Difficult drum parts

I love that feeling. I have my gigs where I learn songs and play what I'm told and I have my original band where I play what I like. We have all written parts that were difficult for us to play and...

Re: Better than the original??.....Noooooo!!!!!!

We were trying to cover Moritat (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QXJ3OXWaOY) the piano player was playing around with the melody until it no longer resembled the original. We just changed the key and...

Re: 14" floor tom as rack tom

I have tried it, it works well for a big rock sound. The floor tom up by the bass drum looks cool but it is a PITA to reach, you end up putting unnecessary strain on your back to reach that low....

Re: Ludwig's new Signet 105 drum line!

Signet 105 thread AKA the Watch Bermuda feed the trolls thread.

Now lets all bother him about some other minute feature of this new kit ad nauseum. Those tension rode look prone to failure. I...

Re: Just a G.A.S. observation

I use them to keep my gear clean. I find that the small hands of children are perfect for cleaning the hard to reach nooks of my chrome snare. When they misbehave I use them as a bass drum pillow.

Re: Just a G.A.S. observation

I recently reached a point where I have everything I need. I'm a hobbyist drummer although I do make a little extra income from my playing and its really the only hobby I have. Until this point...

Re: Zach Hill's Drums

Grunt, did you notice that the CL seller listed it as a Vistalite kit?

Yes OP, that is a Ludwig kit. Looks like a 14" concert tom that he has mounted in a snare basket and a 16" or 18" floor...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

I knew I liked you. I was looking over a GC catalogue last night and just annoyed that I couldn't find a kit in a configuration the I liked. I don't care for this 12, 16 tom setup. That small tom...

Re: Its a new age.

Jim, I actually saw a band playing at Rula Bula in Tempe do this. They were a very tight rock cover band and had the phone # listed on a banner which came to an I pad the singer had attached to her...

Re: Dilemma : what should I sell?

Do you have anything else cool you can sell? Post it on the Classifieds section and recoup your losses then keep both snares. A deep snare and a shallow snare can cover a lot of sonic ground, no...

Re: Tip of the day

Great story Tony, reminds me of that old saying of teaching a man to fish. Now that I think about it I should probably mark my cymbal stand heights to save me a little extra time in setting up.

Re: Ludwig Super Classic from 1964

Nice looking kit. I'd love to see some well lit pics without the weird hipster filter on them. Are those hats 14" or 15"?
