Re: Argument with Guitarist over time signature

YOU are counting the ride one 1 and 4. HE is feeling it on every downbeat, with the snare on 2 and 4, the most common way a backbeat is felt. What you describe can counted both ways. I would count it...

Re: Other musicians' view of drums.

Interesting. I would love to learn a real instrument. :-) I started to take bass lessons, but I only have barely enough time to keep up what meager chops I have on drums.

Re: My bizarre, ego-destroying experience

Who would even think about doing this to somebody in their own private rehearsal space? If you were messing up at rehearsal, *maybe* (and I'm not sure he should have put it that way)

This guy is a...

Re: Other musicians' view of drums.

i didn't mean to imply it was a bad scene. There was good natured ribbing following.

Other musicians' view of drums.

All,

Funny story. Last week my band was rehearsing a song that has a part where everybody except the drums drops out. The guitarist wanted to go over "the part where all the instruments drop out"...

Apologies

I apologize to any I might have offended for my tasteless joke in Jimi Hendrix forum. I have a dark sense of humor that usually comes off better in person.....maybe. Sometimes it gets the better of...

Re: Playing two different styles jazz and metal - technical problems

None for me. I suck equally at all of them.

Re: What sport disciplines help you become better on drums?

While not a sport, Buddy Rich was a tap dancer. I bet this would help.

As far real sports go, I would think martial arts might help as well.

Re: Hit like a girl

No reason to get upset, this is reasonable discussion.

What does the above have to do with having a separate contest for female drummers, giving the impression that they need such a thing?

Did...

Re: Hit like a girl

Well, I guess it's not a huge deal. I was hoping to to hear more from the women on this forum, though.

Re: Hit like a girl

There could be, but I don't think any of your points are a reason to have different competitions for men and women.

Are they going to get their own auditions for professional music jobs?

Re: Hit like a girl

Sorry, I am at work and can't answer that often.

I would think that women would get a little miffed at this. It is probably an honest attempt a getting young girls involved in drumming and that's...

Hit like a girl

All,

A little rant.

I noticed that the Drum Channel had a 'Hit like a girl' contest for female drummers.

Why should women/girls have their own category? I see no earthly reason why women...

Re: Collective noun for drummers?

A crash of drummers.

'Crash' is the term for a group of Rhinoceros's (sp) , BTW.

Re: I'm looking to buy Tama or DW

I gig and I prefer the rack toms on a stand....it also holds a cymbal so it's not really an extra stand.

I think having my two toms directing in front of my snare is worth it. I don't have to...

Re: Should I start out with electronic drums?

While I don't think an E kit is the best thing for somebody to learn on, in your situation I think it may be the best option.

B sides

All,

Has anybody here ever tried to put together a classic rock band that played songs from the era that were a little more obscure? I like the music from that era but get real sick of hearing the...

I know I'm a bit late to this but....

Somebody once said to me that every job they had always had the same ten people.

I have found internet forums to be similar as well.

That being said,...

Re: Proof other musicians don't care how drums sound.

I guess I wasn't very clear or spent too much time describing the set. My point was that they didn't seem to care how bad the set sounded. It could have sounded a LOT better with just 30 minutes to...

Re: A hard thing to do

I really tried to be respectful, but I always worry about burning bridges. The music community is a small one.
