I was in a similar situation where I joined a cover band and had to learn roughly 80 songs. Took me a few months to be honest but here's the system I developed:

Overbooking/Double booking?

Hey y'all,

How do you guys deal with overbooking/double-booking scenarios? I'm starting to get too busy, a good problem to have no doubt (don't let my username fool ya), but one I am ill-equipped...

Re: A word of encouragement

Thanks for the motivation, Larry. Was there anything in particular that really helped you start feeling the groove? Any "breakthough" moments?

Re: Don't you love non-drummers who think they know more about grooves than you?

Those situations, it's just a matter of weighing the pros and cons. What does being in that band give you? If it's not money, then it better be an education, exposure/networking, or just because it's...

Re: Don't you love non-drummers who think they know more about grooves than you?

First off, this advice only applies when you are getting feedback from non-drummer musicians your respect/trust/are usually right about shit. If they are giving you things that are fundamentally off,...

Re: Seeking Drummers with Recording Equipment for a Project

In my opinion you're doing fine on your own, but I'd be down to take a crack at 'em. Check out my old band at http://great-waves.com (I'd recommend Burial as the first listen).

Edit: I must warn...

Re: Building Snare Collection - Where Do I Go From Here?

Oops, sort of forgot to check back on this until now. Thanks for the advice guys! As for the Dunnett Titanium, it's a great drum but I want a range of sounds, not just one really good sound. I'll...

Building Snare Collection - Where Do I Go From Here?

Alright, forgive me if there's already been a good thread on this, but the search function didn't give me quite what I was looking for.

Anyway, I'm interested in building a snare collection,...

Alright guys, since no one else seems to want to say it...

Smelly balls.

Edit: Unless you're a girl, of course. Then it would be a...you know what I think you can figure it out.

Re: pro drummers with bad technique

Bill Stewart. Even he said in a clinic that "I would not recommend my technique to anyone", but he gets that funny sound out of the ride cymbal because of his tight grip on the stick.

Re: Buying off ebay

I would not recommend buying cymbals off of ebay. You really should hear your cymbals before you buy them, and test them, because each one has their own individual sound. Besides that it seems fine....

Re: Burying the Beater

I would disagree with this strongly. Even though it can be argued that some music needs more attack and less sustain, I think that this should be done with either a wood beater or different...

Re: Instructional Books

I will second the Larry Finn. I don't know much about the DVD, but I've had him as a teacher and he's one of the best. Definitely a top-notch teacher.

Re: Professional drummers and sheet music

Yeah don't worry about. I definitely know what it's like to play with a bunch of crappy players in a school band, it drove me MAD. I ended up quitting because the band director was being a huge dick...

Re: Professional drummers and sheet music

I'm not trying to insult those who hate reading music, but why would you NOT learn how to read? I don't understand how it constricts your playing at all. Good sheet music leaves a TON of room for...

Re: portnoy, bad technique??

First off, no one is bashing his musicianship, he is indeed a great drummer and no one here denies that, but his technique is really not something that one should imitate. It's crappy technique, and...
