It's from 1982. Buddy had a heart attack shortly after this. He was not well.
His playing was better than ever. Buddy ALWAYS played great!!

Buddy was NOT at his best on the 1970 clip. Of course he was great, but he was better
on the later clips. Buddy kept improving. Look how Buddy applies his speed later.

actually played on the same bill once! According to Jason, John's son,

No way. I know this whole thing isn't fair but I have to respond. These drummers are VERY different. Donati plays COMPLEX patterns and does not play with the swing

If anyone taught the other, it was Gruber watching Buddy....maybe Gruber told Buddy something about notation, NOT about technique. Might explain the "consultant" thing.

Of course it's all opinions. These comparisons of Buddy to Vinnie,Donati,Lang, etc....
I feel Buddy was far better in his fluidity, speed, and swinging attack. Buddy
didn't play the non-swinging,...
