Re: Pretty sure my brain is screwing me up...

If you are working on Matt's Ritter's excellent DVD, have you considered contacting him for some lessons? I'm not sure where you are located but he may teach via Skype if you are not in the NYC...

Re: My leg(s) get super itchy playing drums?

Seriously, I think that this is a question for a physician.

You can start with a GP, otherwise, a neurologist. Itching and and burning is not a normal reaction. I'm not posting of any...

Re: A fun and useful method for devoting independent coordination

If you practice the New Breed correctly, I don't think that you'd have any of the issues you describe.
Are you using a click? Are you trying to make it groove every time? Are you singing the...

Re: Drumming and pain

Try to stay as relaxed as possible all of the time, warm up very well, make your set up as ergonomic as possible, try to find the techniques and motions that conserve energy and do not exert...

Re: Extreme Rock/Pop Independence

Thanks for another interesting one! It is always appreciated.

A quick FYI, (which I'll bet that you already know!) is that Gary Chester had his students play the "melody" with the snare drum...

Re: Bass Pedal Technique Help: Heel-Up

I think that aside from a great teacher to work one on one with, check out Matt Ritter's DVD,Unburying the Beater. All of the proper motions and a lot of other things you need are on this...

Re: Drum capo?

I remember the Pearl ad in MD featuring Roger Hawkins of Muscle Shoals Studios with the Vari-Pitch drums.

I second the notion of carrying some Roto-Toms if you are going to encounter this kind...

Re: My Gurus through my PA.

OK.....you really need to stop posting videos.........

I'm seriously thinking about a second mortgage on the house to be able to get a set of Guru's plus they are now invading my dreams just...

Re: Yogi Horton

A fantastic groovemeister that left us way too soon. As I understand it, he was first call for a lot of artists and he's on a lot of hit records, not just R&B but as mentioned, pop and rock too.

Re: Quick doubles on the kick

Bill Bachman, it's very interesting to see you do what looks like a modified slide technique without burying the beater! Thank you for posting this.

I have never buried the beater and...

Re: Open handed technique

Gary Chester was a proponent of this. Some of his systems use left hand lead. His recommended set up was to have three sets of hi hats, the regular set on the usual stand, an x-hat on the right...

Re: Colaiuta "Indian Time Zones" Transcription

Thank you for this. Any VC transcription is always welcome. ........Mainly because I don't have the patience to attempt to transcribe his stuff.
Those who do so are amazing IMO!

Re: Jim Gordon

Please keep us updated if you go ahead with this. I have read that there was some odd clause that keeps him from being able to be paroled. I have no clue how or why that would happen and/or if...

Re: who here uses in-ear plugs?

I've been using the Vic Firth's which look to be very similar to the Vater's and the inexpensive Etymotic's.

The stuffiness bothers me so I ordered the Earasers. I thought that they provided...

Re: Alternating triplets and quadruplets

+1 for what you describe.

Otherwise, there is a hybrid rudiment called a "Triple-Acue" which uses different sticking of three grace notes starting with the left hand followed by a four stroke...

Re: Cleaning drums

This has been the perfect solution for me for a while now. No need for chemicals, just high quality microfiber cloths, dampened slightly when necessary.

Re: My Practice Routine--AKA I have no life......

Re: Help with Black Page #1 (eleven-tuplets)

I have a handwritten copy from MI/PIT 1985/86 and I've always thought that it was FZ's handwriting too. At least, I always wanted to think that. :-)

I also performed it in music...

Re: Anticipations, etc.

There are no hard and fast rules. Some will catch the figure(s) and some will not.

It all depends on the composition, the context, etc. If you've got a chart written out and that is what's...
