Re: ddrum Hybrid

This. If you are wanting to keep the trigger portion of the drum, I'd keep it virgin just to limit crosstalk from the trigger.

Re: Consolidating Gear-Opinions Welcomed and Appreciated

35 just seems crazy, I don't even know if I'd have space for that. I just downsized from 3 to 2 because of space vs lack of use.

That being said, to each their own. There are a lot of collectors...

Re: Mid Level Kits

Honestly, if I was in college again I'd probably grab a DW Frequent Flyer since I always remembered space being a premium when I was that age.

Re: Mounting toms on bass drum vs virgin bass drum

Tom mounts on the bass can be great for a quick setup if they are positioned where you like them.

However, for me I'm never happy with where they end up putting the toms.

Re: Shout out your local GC employee

A little while ago, I had to teach a GC employee who actually was a drummer that drum sticks came in lengths other than 16".

The GC nearest me tends to hire generalist musician type people. They...

Re: Yamaha Recording Custom (the rare ones!)

Concert toms? Probably not as much as you would like them to be worth.

You can search for a thread that someone posted earlier about a large Pearl concert tom set that someone had and was...

Re: Drum department upstairs??

Some of it is probably to discourage people just strolling in from playing on the drums, that's why they usually put them a bit out of the way. Either upstairs or in the back or whatever.

Re: My New Civil War Drum Set

Whatever.

It looks nice, and it is obvious a lot of work went in to it. It just seems like to me if you are going to go through all the trouble of aging and distressing the finish, you might as...

Re: My New Civil War Drum Set

Looks interesting, but honestly it seems like a waste of a new kit to me. Your kit to do with what you want though.

Re: Tune Bot - Worthwhile or Not?

I actually have both. I had purchased the DrumTune Pro app first. It had more features, but it seemed a bit clunky and cumbersome to navigate so I never really used it.

I got the DrumTuneEZ app...

Re: Drumstick Trick People! What's good?

You can check out Chip Ritter, that is kind of a big part of his stuff. He's got a free drumeo video explaining some of his tricks.

Re: Tune Bot - Worthwhile or Not?

I have the DrumTunerEZ app that works really well. It works very similar to the TuneBot system and is $2.99.

It works pretty well if you don't want to spend the money on the TuneBot, but the...

Re: Tune Bot - Worthwhile or Not?

The gig one does the job.

You just have to determine if the extra features are worth it to you or not.

The gig is just plain and simple, reads your lugs and has the difference mode. The...

Re: What is your least favorite concession you made in your set up?

Mine is that my two main kits both have 18" Depth bass drums. I would prefer a shallower bass drum, but I got a good deal on the kits.

Re: Can anyone advise on this kit?

There used to be one, I think it was called the Black Book or something. It was only available to dealers though and is what a lot of stores like GC and Mars used to use back in the day. The only...

Re: Is this normal....

Is it normal? Pretty much. It is rough, being in a band is like a marriage and actually in some bands people spend more time with the band than their partners.

As for things falling apart...

Re: Stage Etiquette article

Arg, nothing worse than doing a festival or something where you only have a 15 minute change over (including your quick soundcheck) and the band before you takes 12 minutes to get off stage.

Re: Should I say something? If so, how?

Would you say something to these people if they were drummers that have been playing for 20+ years?

Re: Rank the brands

Okay, so I finally figured out the ranking.

#1) The brand you like.
#2) The brand you used to like but stopped using because someone told you they were bad. You still kind of like them though....

Re: Tuning a snare to perfect 4th's with a Tune-bot

That is basically what I do.

I set my drums on my throne (I use a Pork Pie Round throne) which mutes the opposite head. On my 10" Tom I usually don't mute the top, on bigger drums I do either a...

Re: Rank the brands

Take DW, Gretsch, Ludwig, Mapex, Pearl, Tama, and Yamaha and put them all in a hat. Draw them one by one and write the names down. Put them back in the hat, then draw them again, writing the names...

Good stuff, but they have had big issues with distribution. They are kind of in distribution hell right now.

If you get the drums new, they actually include some extra tension rods.

Re: DW Design Series vs. Gretsch Renown

For what it is worth, if you have a Sweetwater card they are doing 0% interest for 48 months on Gretsch and DW until April 2nd.
