Re: Craviotto - Interesting news

Interesting indeed. I like the vibe of that.
Makes sense with Steve Maxwell's recent expansion into the area.

Re: Cheap hack for bass drum hoop grip/protector

I use a similar thing, a strip of velcro with the adhesive back.
Works great. The harder side; it's thinner

Re: Do you own a bop kit?

I'm not getting into a big argument about this - but I wouldn't say 'nothing'....simply, you have to know how to tune.
I tune all the drums pretty much the same.
If you prefer to use a tuner,...

Re: Do you own a bop kit?

I have had several bop kits and currently have 5:

Gretsch Broadkaster (135th Anniversary kit) 12/14/18
Yamaha 2016 Recording Custom 10/12/14/18
Yamaha Oak Custom 10/13/14/18
Yamaha Club Custom...

Re: need advice- 1970 super classics

Buy a set of the Pearl isolation feet and put them on the spurs....that will raise the bass drum a couple inches, or allow you to raise it a couple of inches, depending on the spur angle.
Cheap and...

Re: Opinion : Is this a strange combination ?

Are you sure about this ?
I was under the impression that they don't do this at all.

Re: Opinion : Is this a strange combination ?

^^^ Yes, this is true. Good point.

OMG hahaha...nooooooooo

Oh yeah, I think Jammin' Sams can do this. Interesting idea.

Re: Opinion : Is this a strange combination ?

Haha, awesome.
Oh I am going to gig them for sure...just wondering how many others do this sort of thing and for what reasons.

Re: Opinion : Is this a strange combination ?

Should have mentioned, can't buy Cream Oyster wrap anywhere. Both Ludwig and Gretsch use it but it's a Delmar -> factory exclusive colour. Not available at Precision, Bum Wraps, Jammin Sam etc etc.

Opinion : Is this a strange combination ?

So I have this orphan satin natural 20" x14" Gretsch Broadkaster bass drum, and then a 10/12/14/16/22 Brooklyn kit. I often play the Brooklyn in a 12/16/22 configuration.

So I thought I'd try...

Re: Whenever you come across a used drum set, why is it that..............?

Seller wants MORE money than they paid for their beat-to-crap Mapex Tornado kit because it has been "professionally tuned" (a year ago)
Comes with original (dented and beat up) heads - listed as a...

Re: DW Double-tom mount on shallow bass drum

The only other mount I can think of that is equally overbuilt , and also doesn't require drilling like the Saturn mount would be the Sonor "Rocket Launcher" :

Re: New Yamaha oaky goodness (Live Custom Hybrid Oak)

No, the original Club Custom line was short lived in the mid 90's...they were made of birch and mahogany just like the Tour Customs of the 90's. They also had the same lugs as the Recording Customs....

Re: Maybe I'm done compensating for my height ;)

Just want to add...a new generation Gretsch 20x14 Broadkaster will change your life...and opinion of 20" bass drums in general.

Re: Gretsch USA Custom vs. Broadkaster vs. Brooklyn Video

Loved this video, can't wait for the rest in the series.

I have all three Gretsch lines, but not each in 12/14/20. I do have a 20x14 Broadkaster bass drum and it's the best 20" I've ever owned....

Re: Metal bass drum hoops - not so bad

OK, so the factory hoops went back on the Sonor Vintage kit. That kit will stay intact for the foreseeable future.

I recently finished a green sparkle vintage Ludwig 3ply project 12/15/20.

The...

Hey! Thanks for your comments, and offer. I should have explained a little better... I don't do the re-wrapping myself , or cutting down shells, or drilling, or bearing edges. I have a guy I work...

My latest vintage Ludwig project

Here I find myself with yet another vintage Ludwig 3 ply 12/15/20 project.

See, it all starts with finding a bass drum that I like. This is a 20"x12" marching bass drum (so it has no spurs) in...

Yup, I have a new Brooklyn rock kit and a new Broadkaster 135th Bop kit ; they are both flawless. Have also had recent USA Customs and other Broadkasters and they were all flawless as well. I have...

I agree, try all three - but also, as you mentioned, there is absolutely nothing wrong with Renowns. I currently have BK,USA, and Brooklyn kits, and I want a Renown kit (again). They are versatile...

Re: New Gretsch vs older Gretsch

New / old , I don't think there is a bad choice. The newer stuff has better hardware and generally QC is better.

USA Customs are remarkably similar sounding over the last 40 years.

Honestly,...

Re: Metal bass drum hoops - not so bad

Yes, exactly! This drum sounds great with these hoops. No loss of anything. But I'm keeping the original wood hoops , and it's not like I'm going out and buying more metal hoops to swap out on other...
