Re: Drummers that can't tune drums.

Damn kids and their cassette tapes.

We had to lift the needle.....uphill , in the snow.

Re: Canít hear my kick!

So, you can't hear your kick because the amps are too loud (probably trying to compensate for the volume of your snare) so you put in ear plugs and turn up the kick?? You are in a volume war and...

Re: Canít hear my kick!

Drums mic'd in a small rehearsal room?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you guys are playing too loud.

If you can't hear the kick, you certainly can't hear the vocals. And, in a...

Re: Best way to trigger backing tracks?

Certainly an MP3 player, phone, tablet or computer would work but gigging with the tiny screen/buttons would be tough.

For a cheap/free experiment, just put the whole track on a device and send...

Re: Best way to trigger backing tracks?

I don't think you can load samples to the old Roland spds models.

You want the SPD-SX. I used one for several tears, triggering the tracks when it was time. It was a PITA and took away from my...

Re: Let there be light!

@ 67, in an 80's band, I try to stay behind the smoke and mirrors :)

But, I do like the idea of lights triggers by drum beats so they are not random.

Re: I don't understand why people close mic

Again, knowing little about drum mixing in real life, it seems logical that you should/would be able to get the drummer's mix, what he plays/hears, from one spot.

I would be interested in...

Re: I don't understand why people close mic

I don't have any real experience but it seems like the toms need to be close because they are relatively more quiet. Also, the farther away you put the mics, the less they can be mixed properly and...

Re: Kick Snare & Hat

Depends on the venue/setting. Paying to see an act, you would expect to see and hear a full kit. Walking into a bar/club to hear a band you may have different expectations.

If you were not a...

Re: Tip of the day

I was never a fan of theatrics OVER music but I do like to SEE people play.

Re: Tip of the day

This seems 100% opposite of the concept of performance. It seems like the audience would dictate most everything.

I suppose if your product was good enough, you could say "Here it it. Like it or...

Re: Tip of the day

Yeah, I figure that out quite a while ago.

I like being in back and don't necessarily like my mug to be seen, but I do like to have an unobstructed view and see what's goin on out there

Re: Drum stacking...

I suppose you won't like this :)

The floor tom is in the kick (legs attached) and the snare in on top of it. The rack toms are behind the canvas bags.

No bags, no nothin. Leave them on the...

Re: I totally forgot how much I hated smoke

The casinos here allow smoking and yeah, it is nasty. All the gear reeked and I had to let it air out outside for a couple days before bringing anything in.

Re: Self-taught drummer tips

1. Step away from the computer.

2. Pick up your sticks and play :)

As far as motivation, just think of all the women who will be chasing after you :)

Re: non-specific criticism

I would have finished the conversation. Every instrument has a place in "the groove". One of them may be off but it could be anyone.

In 10 minutes you could probably pick the song apart and find...

Re: Trigger Controlled Light Show?

I got a midi/DMX. system to kind of work but it would only turn the light on, then off and I wanted them to flash on/off. I found options out there but nothing SIMPLE, plug and play.

Re: Current drum trends you wish would go away

I don't have any that I wish would go away, even drum machines.

I am however always puzzled at the kits with 15 cymbals. I generally only listen to pop/rock and, maybe it's my ears but, I never...

Re: What is the slowest BPM song you enjoy playing

The slowest I currently play is a ballad at 70 BPM.

It is sometimes a chore to keep it in check, both for the band members and myself. The acoustic guitarist wants to rush the intro, the vocalist...

Re: A re-statement of the obvious

I don't know if that could be the reason. I know a LOT of angry old guys. :)
