Re: Puppet plays Tom Sawyer...

Fantastic stuff. I got a good laugh out of it.

His bass drum's tuned a little high though.

Re: Poll: Buddy Rich

There's Buddy's personality,

and then there's Buddy's drumming prowess.

It's possible to be a fan of one and not the other.
Not a well thought out question for a poll.

Re: maple/oak hyrid snare

I'm sure they'd both be fine. Disclaimer - I haven't tried either one.

If I were buying one though, I'd get the Ludwig.

No real rational reason other than just because I generally like Ludwig...

Re: 2013 Yamaha Stage Customs

No sense killing the goose that lays the golden egg.
Competition is fierce in that price range.
Raise the price and there are plenty of attractive alternatives available.

There's only the...

Similar concept, I guess.

Re: Yamaha Drums

I see the start of a new fad here.

I'm gonna' use leather lacing on my steel snare.

Not much for new drum stuff. They show 3 things under the 'drum' tab (about halfway down):...

Re: Wood snares

Went through enough snares in the last few years that I don't remember most of them.
A couple wood snares I do remember (and still have and like) are the Yamaha Musashi 13" and the Maple Custom...

Re: Stoopid drum deal of the day: Sonor Jungle

I'm sure it'll do just fine.
I saw a group at an outdoor concert last summer whose drummer was using a
16" bass drum. He somehow managed to get a double pedal on it too.
It sounded just fine, and...

Re: Just browsing - cool steel snares

Never had an acrolite, so can't compare it.
I chronicled my experience with the sensitone elite in another thread. http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=113837&highlight=pearl+snares...

Re: Just browsing - cool steel snares

First - great score on the kit and snare. I've got one of those snares. Nice drum.

Second - just look around and get the most expensive steel snare available.

Most expensive is always best,...

Re: My Kit Build Begins!

I always liked Stage Customs, but never really cared too much for white drums -
until I saw this NAMM demo introducing the new series:

Re: Yamaha Drums

I guess I misunderstood these posts. It sounded like you were going to sell off all your Yamaha drums (no Yamaha after 20 1/2 years), and buying a Lignum set.

But it now looks like the Oaks are...

Re: Yamaha RC or Tama starclassic

Better think about this one a bit.
I get the feeling from your post you're not real sold on the idea.

I guess a lot depends on how much you paid for your Starclassics,
and how much extra...

Re: The Orphan Drum Factory II

You really went whole hog there. They look great.
Good to hear they sound great too.

Now you've just got to get " Tamaha Starcustom " on your bass drum reso head - LOL

Re: The Orphan Drum Factory II

Those colors go good together.

The only thing I probably would have done different is to use the Yamaha 3 hole tom mount.
Even if you had to use a bushing for the shaft through the bass drum.

I wouldn't put all the blame on GC. According to the link, Tama calls it the "Tama Silverstar 6 piece kit in Satin Walnut Tamo."
