Re: Yogi Horton history of funk drumming

Mr. Bishop, thank you so much for posting this! This is a paradigm shift in terms of physical and mental approach to playing for me. I have been searching for answers to time/feel and groove that...

Re: Always out of breath, need to get my stamina up somehow.

Walking/jogging/running and calisthenics are simple, effective and require little or no initial monetary investment. And complexity and intensity can be escalated when necessary.

Re: Anyone a member of The Drum Channel??

For the price it's awesome. I loved the interviews with Abe laboriel Jr and Nate Morton recently. Also, Erskine's matter class series is spectacular! Great content.

Cobus isn't on there much any...

Re: Country drummers!

Big Ears, solid time/feel and groove, restraint and a modicum of taste, ability to sight read chord charts, able to get the sound from the drums and cymbals that fit the songs, and a positive...

Re: Yikes! A Craigslist Advertisment

It is a "dum" kit. It doesn't even know how to put itself together!

Re: drum tuners

Don't piano tuners use a A440 hz tuning fork as reference to tune the A above middle C and then tune in intervals thereafter?

I like using a drum dial to seat and re-seat heads and then to guage...

Re: How LOUD were the classic rock bands??

I just checked out those bands. I really liked them, especially Mars Red Sky! Thanks. I really like Witch, Red Fang, Black Tusk, Baroness, and The Sword.

Re: How LOUD were the classic rock bands??

I've never experienced that either. The snare is usually cutting cutting through.

I love stoner/doom rock and sludge. I've heard high on fire are absurdly loud, as well as Electric Wizard.

And...

Re: How LOUD were the classic rock bands??

That's what I'm hoping for. They're just harder to come by and you have to pay more for used in those sizes or to custom order them.

One day...

Re: How LOUD were the classic rock bands??

Thanks, Jim. I do tune high because of this issue. I want the body of a larger diameter drum tuned higher. I think that's what I'm really after. I already use an uncut reso I will just take out my...

Re: Tension

Gest subject! Thanks Larry.

I started playing again 3 years ago. I was practicing in my garage, not a lot of tension. When I joined a band a year ago the intensity of playing with amplified...

Re: How LOUD were the classic rock bands??

Oh, loudest band I've seen was Helmet at a small club in Nashville. John Stanier, my ears are still ringing, dude. Awesome show, though. Yeah, I'm young. I wish I had been able to see those 70s heavy...

Re: How LOUD were the classic rock bands??

Shoot, I need bigger drums. And thank god for 2 channel amps and gain and volume controls. The guys I play with don't even turn up the master volume above 4 and it's LOUD!

I play a 10, 12, 16, 22,...

Re: What kind of grip does this drummer use?

Looks like french. Also looks very comfortable and loose to me. Kinda looks similar to Benny Greb's grip.

In relation, Brann Dailor's grip technique intrigues me. It just doesn't work for me but...

Re: Matt Johnson reflects on Jeff Buckleys "Grace" ... great video

This album inevitably makes me well up with tears every time I listen to it. Jeff's voice, lyrics and melodies just punch me in the gut and I break down. Such tragically beautiful and emotionally...

Re: Snare Throw-off issue

I agree with this. When I wasn't as familiar with maintenance of drums and hardware I had this problem. I use white lithium grease on metal to metal hardware contact points. Also I take all hardware...
