bass and tom shells:

GMS grand master. these are the most resonant shells i've ever heard!
not quite sure what finish i'd want. maybe a real...

Re: dw coated clear heads as resonant heads?

thanks for the replies :)

see, i think there would be an audible difference though. there's definitely an audible difference between a clear and a coated single ply head as a resonant, at least to...

dw coated clear heads as resonant heads?

ok, so most people like using a standard g1 or ambassador as a resonant, and once in a while there's the occasional person using coated on the back. to me, the DW heads seem like they would be great...

Re: Pop Punk Drum Kit Setup

ditto response. i'd say i play a punk setup;
4 piece with large 12/16 toms, 14x6.5 snare and 22x16 kick
hats, crash, crash/ride, and a single pedal. the fun thing for me
is that i like switching...

Re: Excessive snare vibration when hit off center

tightening the reso generally increases your wire sensitivity, meaning increased buzz. you might want to bring the head down a bit while keeping the wire tension a bit higher.

Re: Questions about 14x7" size snares

the cool thing about a deeper shell size like that is that it takes more energy to excite the wires since there's more space between the heads. that slight delay, along with other factors from the...

Re: need help choosing a high end snare

thanks for all the replies! i think more than likely it'll be the porkpie then, since we actually have one at the shop. another one i was considering was the tama bubinga, but i think i'm convinced...

Re: need help choosing a high end snare

thanks for the reply. unfortunately, i don't believe that snare is available where i work though.

i have chosen a couple of candidates though, and would like some feedback on these two models in...

need help choosing a high end snare

Ok, so i work at (insert big musical retail store) and have a customer looking for a big, warm snare sound and his budget is about $400-600. i've already got some ideas as to what drums to point him...

Re: Less is more

i like the less is more approach, and generally set up with a 4 piece and crash/hat/ride setup. i find that if i limit myself to the bare essentials, i feel i can play any kit i run across, and can...

Re: Towards or Away from the corner?

if you face it into the corner, it's going to sound a bit darker and less open. facing out, the kit will have more room to breath and you'll get more volume and brightness.

Re: THE DRUM MODIFICATION THREAD.

alright, so check this out. i've got a cheapie dixon kit, got it for $399 new, came with everything, and had that ugly generic wine red wrap. i got tired of it, so i decided to peel off the wraps and...

Re: i don't understand notes

i've found that tuning my two rack toms, a 12" and 13", sound best about a step apart from each other, and the 16" floor tom a fifth down from the 13". specifically, i've got the batters tuned low to...

Re: Two Drummers, One Band

as primarily a guitarist, i have to disagree with that. sure, you sound fuller if you use a stereo rig, but two guitarists is a very different subject all on it's own, especially when you consider EQ...
