Re: Gretsch Flavor

If at first you don't succeed,.....and all that.

Some things actually do work out surprisingly well.

I think that kit would put a huge smile on the Mayor's face every time he walked in the room...

Re: Gretsch Flavor

Go for it.
You only live once.
You've probably got some stuff you could sell off to help pay for it.

Not realistic, I know. Just trying to do my job as a forum enabler - ha ha.

I kinda'...

Go stick it where the sun don't shine - then get off my lawn.

Re: How Much Better is Yamaha Tour Cust vs Absolute Hybrid???

Maybe those extra thin shells of the Tours have something to do with it.
I only use them indoors, so will probably never run into that.

Projection was the first thing I thought of though....

Re: The Aviator

The lugs look a bit too much like Ludwig, IMO:

Re: How Much Better is Yamaha Tour Cust vs Absolute Hybrid???

Curious what you mean by that.
Not enough projection?
Not flashy enough visually?
Something else?

Re: Vintage Pearl Drums!

Ya - $300 for that set is a really good deal, no matter how much elbow grease it needed.

Re: Interesting Observation Regarding Drum Quality and Sound Preferences

Interesting comments from Bermuda about the shell construction.

I don't know much about it, but they used less, but thicker plies then.
And like he says, the joining method was different.
Some...

Re: Vintage Pearl Drums!

Looks like it was a fun project that turned out good.

I thought you were paring down to 1 or 2 kits to prepare to move into a smaller place though.

Re: How Much Better is Yamaha Tour Cust vs Absolute Hybrid???

The current version Tour Custom was announced in the summer of 2017,
and was supposed to start shipping later in the year:...

Re: How Much Better is Yamaha Tour Cust vs Absolute Hybrid???

Different categories and price ranges. Gigging set vs. touring/pro set.
If you go by the specs, they're not similar at all.

Tour Custom:...

Re: Namm 2019 rumors

One reason I won't consider DW.
Across the board standards are better IMO.
Especially for stuff like if you need to grab a tension rod without worrying if you'll cross thread it,
and ruin stuff...

Re: Namm 2019 rumors

Maybe I'm missing a piece or something, (the box was open when I got it, with no directions),
but I can't get the wing nut tightened enough to hold the piece I've got circled in red,
from...

Re: Looking for Jazz Drum Set

I'm not sure that high school band/jazz band students are really concerned about getting to work as much as they want.

Re: Anyone just play drums for themselves only?

Playing in a band got to be boring to me.
Not boring exactly, but like mikyok says, you go on autopilot and just sort of zone out.
Not at first, but after playing the same sets so many times with...

Re: Looking for Jazz Drum Set

Haven't you heard - this is the age of specialization.

Edit: horns just for jazz? - no. But you probably wouldn't want to use a flute to play a trumpet part either.

But ya - a good drummer...

Re: Looking for Jazz Drum Set

Ya - I forgot that one too - quiet, trio type jazz,

or loud, big band brass jazz.

Re: Anyone just play drums for themselves only?

Yes, it would be wrong.

Almost like a sin, and you'll probably go to hell if you do it.

Re: Namm 2019 rumors

I've got an Atlas Arch on a Classic Maple Jazzette kit and just hate it.
It's big, heavy, clunky, and doesn't hold a setting.
Love the drums though.

That out of the way - ha ha, I like a lot...

Re: Looking for Jazz Drum Set

Budget first, sizes second.

Either 18 or 20 bass drum would be fine. I wouldn't go smaller than that.
The Yamaha Stage Custom bop kit was the first that came to mind.
It's a 3 pc. kit though,...

Re: Namm 2019 rumors

I read on another forum that the new Yamaha Oaks are going to be hybrids (blended shell).
Don't know if that's true, and also didn't hear anything about what the other wood(s) might be.

Re: Rimshots on die cast hoops

I don't know if these are available to purchase separately yet, but I'm really liking the 2.3 Inverse DynaHoops on the Tour Customs I got.

I've got TF hoops from 1.5 up to 3mm, die cast, and S...

Re: Silver sparkle floor tom ID please

Can't know if it's worth the asking price because you haven't said what that is.

That said, it looks like a generic re-wrapped tom to me.
