Re: Tricks for faster set up

Haha I know exactly what you mean. I'm the same. Tearing through set up and pack down in record times despite everyone cruising with plenty of time.

Re: Tricks for faster set up

It makes my day playing clubs with a nice house kit. Nothing I enjoy more than slowly cruising in with nothing but my cymbal and stick bag. Ahhh....

Re: When to do Free Gigs and Paid Gigs

Ok. You should definitely have kept reading then. Understand the context instead of putting your own version to things I haven't said and calling me hypocritical. I'd clarified it from the start to...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

I recently got a $1000 Red Rock Fijian mahogany stave snare for $200! Bargain! Beautiful sound, but what really got me was it's the lightest drum I've ever come across. Literally like carrying a...

Re: When to do Free Gigs and Paid Gigs

This is like Groundhog Day. No victim mode. I was laughing at the absurdity of it, not going for the sympathy vote. Unlike you, I'm not back tracking and pretending that I didn't mean what I said, "I...

Re: When to do Free Gigs and Paid Gigs

Cheers Red mate. I'm glad some get it without feeling the need to start abusing someone as a privileged, righteous, poor choice making, get off your pedestal blow hard, 😂, for saying that the music...

Re: When to do Free Gigs and Paid Gigs

That is very clearly not what I was saying and you know it. Stop being obtuse.

If a boxer goes through the corrupt boxing world and makes it as a pro, but also gets affected by the corruption...

Re: Ever forgotten your hihat clutch?

Yep, horribly, I forgot mine to my university audition. Worst panic stricken thing ever when I realised. Luckily, on the audition panel was a guy I'd been checking out at the clubs for a long time...

Re: looking back ,what would you do ?

Unfortunately, it's hard to get past a poor snare. You can only work it so much. Cymbals also so I know what you mean. I'd go for a decent snare, hats and ride also...maybe even a crash if you can...

Re: When to do Free Gigs and Paid Gigs

Hahaha wow. I actually missed this part earlier. Blow hard? lol.

First of all, I haven't lamented about what you call my ill chosen career path at all. I love my career, what I do and wouldn't...

Re: When to do Free Gigs and Paid Gigs

The music industry is a very old line of work. Trying to say that it basically shouldn't be a professional line of work and that it shouldn't even really be paid is incredibly sad.

People who...

Re: No more jam sessions for me. I'm done

If I could make one extra suggestion along with the other great posts...In terms of soloing, there are different approaches you can take obviously, but in a situation where you don't have much...

Re: When to do Free Gigs and Paid Gigs

Read the posts people. Stop bringing up bands starting out and doing one off originals gigs.

By the way, it's not right. That manager is not asking you to work for free. In that example, that...

Re: When to do Free Gigs and Paid Gigs

*sigh* Well, good for you. You really sound like someone I want to know and get sympathy from.

Luckily, I don't have trouble making a living and don't find it hard like you think. I'm not eking...

Re: When to do Free Gigs and Paid Gigs

Hehehe...Well, first off, I don't really play pubs and it's not about going with the 'free guys' vs myself as you say. What you bring up is not my issue with this at all, so that doesn't enter the...

Re: When to do Free Gigs and Paid Gigs

No, no, no. You misunderstand.

It's fine if you play music. I don't care. Play away to your hearts content. Just don't do it for free at a place in which it should be paid work.

If you do a...

Re: Is it OK to talk about the movie "Whiplash" yet?

Ridiculous. In those same situations, most of my teachers have been just straightforward and honest. Critically so, but that's the point. You're there to learn and become the best you can be.

Re: When to do Free Gigs and Paid Gigs

That is precisely the attitude that makes it difficult. If you play in a pub, to people, for entertainment, you should get paid. If not for yourself, damn well have some respect for those who come...

Re: When to do Free Gigs and Paid Gigs

The bigger picture also should take into account that it is some people's profession and that doing any gigs for free can undercut those that literally need to get paid for playing to live. The guys...

Re: Christos Asonitis - Hi-Hat Chop

Just out of curiosity, what's with the latest odd development of calling a lick 'a chop'?

You know..."check this sick chop out bro"?

There's already a word for 'a chop'. It's called a lick...
