Re: PDP Maple X7 Opinions?

I've had my maple X7s for a little almost 2 years now, and I loved them from the moment I laid my eyes...and sticks on them. I too wanted something bigger than the normal 4 or 5 piece, although I...

Approximate age of these Tama Rockstar?

Hey guys, I was hoping that someone might be able to ballpark the age of this Tama Rockstar kit I've inherited from a friend.

Re: Pdp x7 or Ludwig 6 Piece Epic Series?

They are both beautiful.

Coming from an X7 owner, I'm not sure why everyone is speaking so negative, maybe I just got a well made kit. But from what I've found, they have always sounded very full...

Re: Mic'ing bass drum with kickport?

I agree with reply 1, gotta find out what works. If you put it at a certain point it might start to sound "airy" as the air coming out of the kickport is picked up by the mic. Start close, and move...

Re: What's your Tuning MO?

I like this method too, very thorough. However, for day to day tuning, I just don't find it practical as it takes a lot of time to remove the batter (especially on a 7piece kit like mine).

Re: What's your Tuning MO?

Not here, and as far as I knew thats usually considered a bad idea. You can stretch and damage the mylar by doing so..learned this from Gatzen (around 1:00...

Re: New semi-pro kit

I went with the x7's in orange (discontinued colour - replaced with black) last summer. I looked around and played a bunch of Tama/Pearl/Gretsch kits, and then found this one and didn't look back. ...

Re: No one likes drummers...

I don't mind holding it down in the back...I don't like to be too far back though where I'm alone the entire show. I love when guitar players or singers come over to the drum area and rock out, it...

Bass Pillows

Hey all, my question is regarding the use of bass pillows or other types of dampening like the Evans EQ pad.

Do you prefer to use a pillow or not? What kind of heads do you use a pillow...

Re: Having trouble with 8" and 16" tom tuning

Care to share?

I messed around with my 8" before band practice last night. I must say that tuning the reso and batter at the same time starting with fingertight, increasing by about 1/4 turns...

Re: Having trouble with 8" and 16" tom tuning

Thanks for the great advice...I've always tried tuning one head, then the other. Seems like it would make a lot of sense to sit down and do them both starting from fingertight. I will try this for...

Re: Having trouble with 8" and 16" tom tuning

Sorry for the confusion, my resos are the stock PDP single ply heads, not emperors. Emperors are batter only.

I look forward to having a day with just my drumkit and I :)

I'm going to try to...

Re: Having trouble with 8" and 16" tom tuning

Bearing edges eh, I hadn't thought about looking into this. Do these have to be shipped somewhere to have the edge redone? Is this an expensive process?

I've sort of made up a plan in my head.....

Re: Having trouble with 8" and 16" tom tuning

I agree - I love a deep throaty sound, which is why I think I have a hard time fitting my 8" into the setup, I may have everything tuned just a little too low (which might make the 16" a little too...

Having trouble with 8" and 16" tom tuning

I have a PDP x7 maple kit with Remo Emperor heads all around 8/10/12/14/16 (about 6 months old). I'm very satisfied with where I can get my 10/12/14 toms, I think they sound great. I've read many...

Re: Drum vocabulary

When improvising it really helps to get yourself right into the song...try to hear where its going, where its building, and transitioning. From there, like mentioned above, listening to a lot of...

Re: ddrum dominion maple duofade vs pacific x7 maple

I can't comment on the dDrum set myself, never played or heard them before, but I am very happy with my PDP x7 Maple set I bought last summer, along with Remo Emperor heads.

I'm still trying to...
