Re: Got about 15 mins each day to increase speed... How should I practice?

What is it you want to get faster at? 15 smart & targeted minutes a day can be quite effective.

Re: How to inspire a new student in 45 minutes

I've read part way back on this, but here are my thoughts:

As the teacher, don't be afraid to play a decent bit during lessons. I used to feel that "I should devote every second to serving this...

Re: John Bonham Snare on the bay

I have a 6.5x14" steel Pearl Export snare from 1989 and a tuning key. I'll stick with that this time around.

Re: THE AMBIDEXTROUS THREAD

I went through the whole Funky Primer book of rock/funk beats left handed/footed. I had no ambitions of ambidextarity, I just wanted to put miles on my left side. It did me good for sure, though the...

Re: Hand Pain

I watched your video and here's what I noticed:

Your wrist pretty much never makes it down to neutral relative to the forearm when playing wrist strokes. You're hitting the drum with the hand...

Re: The Speed Obsession

Virtuosity will pretty much always be effective at stirring emotions and imagination (unless it's entirely over people's heads). Speed is a obvious outlet to display virtuosity.

That said,...

Re: Do you use moeller for back beats?

Thanks for the compliment Dre25!

Rimshot or not, I believe it's better to whip to the backbeat. There's less interaction with/manipulation of the stick: the more nature and the less of you the...

Re: Took a 3 month long break from practicing regularly

Time off from time to time is a good thing for sure. I think of it like de-fragmenting a hard drive, all those miscellaneous little bits of information scattered all over in your brain organize and...

Re: THE AMBIDEXTROUS THREAD

Yes, it's true, I'm a lefty! I write left, throw a ball left, turn a door knob left, type left (yes with one hand only)--all while swinging, kicking & drumming righty. When I started playing...

Re: Quick doubles on the kick

Just put more "weight" (so to speak) on the first one. I too have an easier time locking the second beat in because of the nature of the two (first one's a set-up and the second one gets driven...

Re: Quick doubles on the kick

Yeah, believe it or not that was totally unintentional! It's a brutally bad pun that I only caught long after the fact. :)

Re: Quick doubles on the kick

It's both actually, you do a double while the slide to different leverage points sets you up for success for a nice balance volume-wise.

Re: Quick doubles on the kick

Newoldie, I just play with basic shoes without paying much attention. I do not play in thick running shoes though, I don't want too much squish where the rubber meets the road so to speak.

As for...

Re: Bill Bachman's Drumworkout.com - One Week Free Access

Hi there! I note with my slow/past vertical approach that you should not let the stick touch the palm of your hand at all, the palm is the "brakes." This way you're always completely loose such that...

Re: Inverted Double Stroke problems (Watched Bill Bachman's video)

I think you just need to keep doing it modeling what I'm doing. That's the name of the game. I wouldn't expect to make it all the way through on day 1!

Re: Fulcrums and gaps and buzzes, oh my...

Also, I agree that there is no fulcrum on a stick, it's just a piece of wood. Where you place your fulcrum on that stick is of course important. You want it where the stick rebounds the most, that...

Re: Fulcrums and gaps and buzzes, oh my...

I didn't say to change the fulcrum in that instance, just that more fingers will add on to apply more pressure.

Re: Practicing using different muscle groups on alternate days

Jeff nailed it!

When developing something new, muscles will naturally burn a little bit as they're not used to the new function. A tiny bit of burn is OK, but as soon as it kicks in shift to...
