Re: Is Ringo a good drummer?

True, but we can wax lyrical for hours on how some real icons of the industry would look on todays 'music business'.

I know it's not that long ago since he passed, but I wonder what Pete Wells...

Re: Is Ringo a good drummer?

Is Ringo any good?

Forefront of popular music at the time.
Has made more money than creosote. (Some will get that)
Single handedly made Ludwig the 'must have' kit in Europe.

I've never...

Re: What if you unwittingly stole someones gig?

Have they definitely offered you the gig full time, or just as a stand in whilst the original drummers sorts his stuff out?

I've covered off for people in the past for a few weeks or so if the...

Re: No band

I've been in your shoes before.

You need to furnish some more information as to location etc, and also start getting out there to jam nights, open mic nights etc (If you're old enough; again lack...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

My most recent, I've had them a while but they have spent the last 3 months sailing from the UK to Australia. Just unpacked this afternoon...... Dunnett 14x6 SS and Highwood 14x4 Beech Legacy; both...

Re: using snare of different material than shellpack

I agree with the above, although I have some matching snares to kits; my three main snares used with beech, oak and maple kits over the years have been steel, brass or a maple/cherry mix.

Never...

Re: RUSH retirement rumor

Are you talking about the rumours of 'That very iconic' kit set up?

I'd have loved to have seen them one last time, but alas no dates outside CONUS.

Re: Any UK shops left with lots of cymbals to try?

Another vote for Drumwright, and also Graham Russell in Portsmouth.

Re: Can you tell the difference?

I think a lot of the focus on what wood is being used came from various manufacturers getting into the market and trying to convince people that their Keller maple shells were better than the next...

Re: Yamaha Live Custom Series 2013

If they are replacing the Oak Customs I'd best get a few more ordered before they go the way of the Beech Customs.

Time to send out a few emails.

Re: Yamaha Beech Customs - diamond badge, heads/tuning advice

I have older Beech Customs and use Evans G2 coated batter with G1 clear reso on the toms, stock Yamaha reso on the bass with an Aquarian Superkick II bass head.

Re: the role of bad to make good in music

Sadly, there are far too many of these 'religious groups' around, all over the World in many countries and societies.

Re: the role of bad to make good in music

Ok, I'll play the research websites game with a few of my own. I haven't seen nationmaster.com before though; I'll give it a fair perusal.

Re: Non standard snare drum depths - issue?

Cases shouldn't really be a problem, 14x5.75, get a 14x6.5 case or bag. I keep my 13x7 Black Panther in a 14x8 case inside the bag the drum came in.

Sizes; you aren't the first company to do it....

Re: What has been your best drum score?

Canopus HS-1465-10PH for $65. Played it for a fortnight and received an offer I couldn't refuse for it.

Re: Non standard snare drum depths - issue?

Yep, from 1977 through the 1990's Sonor offered the D505/515/525 14x5.75, the D420 was originally 14 x 3.5, the LD547/557 14x7.25, the HD500 14x5.75; flying in the face of the conventions at the...

Re: Stick bag on the floor tom?

The only concern I have hanging my stick bag are the very, very fine surface scratches it causes in the lacquer when I knock it and it rubs against the drums. A bit of elbow grease and all is fine.

Re: highwood beech legacy 1976

Highwood are very, very well made UK Custom drums.

The Beech Legacy are probably about as vintage as you can get. From the 'UK Custom News Report' by Jeremy Peake in October 2012:

Highwood...

Re: the role of bad to make good in music

I think he was alluding to conscription in Western Countries that were the prime movers in 1991, 2001 & 2003. Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, Austria, Albania, Greece and Turkey in the 'West' have...

Re: New Snare Drum Advice

I swore by 14" snares until I tried a 13" Mapex Black Panther maple/cherry hybrid.

That then became my main snare for everything I've played in the last 5 years except for Surf music.

Re: What's the song and drummer that made you want to play drums?

No specific drummer influenced me to play drums. But the first drummer I 'air drummed' along with after getting a kit was Mick Underwood playing with Gillan.

In fact Mick, along with Rick Allen,...

Re: Bonham rocking a Sonor Teardrop kit

Sky Arts & VH-1 Classic sometimes show Beat-Club episodes, and the Sonor does appear to be the house kit. I haven't seen the episode with Led Zep yet though, but I have found the video from March...
