Re: Told to hit harder

It was already covered in the first reply, but this is patently untrue. Unless we're talking about unacceptable bleed into vocal or amp mics.. But for this thread I think we're focusing solely on the...

Re: Have you ever rented out your drum set?

I actually do have a Paypal Anywhere card reader which the band uses for tshirt and CD sales.

I don't mean to sound so negative and obtuse. I've been curious about doing this with my kit but it's...

Re: Have you ever rented out your drum set?

I guess I mean how is there any guarantee that you will have or receive compensation to cover the damages? As Queen Cersei is happy to show a contract is just a piece of paper if the other party...

Re: Have you ever rented out your drum set?

I can understand maybe feeling that theres a guarantee of compensation from a venue if there's damage to the kit or something is stolen. If you're renting out to a band or one person, how would you...

Re: Drum suspension systems

I can't tell if you're joking/trolling. The sound on that first video is probably 90% influenced by the recording engineer, who himself is likely influenced 90% by the mixing fads of the time.

Re: Drum suspension systems

I don't disagree with that. My two mounted toms in the floor position have RIMS and they trade vibration like crazy. But I highly doubt they're as unimpeded as toms mounted directly to a bass drum.

Re: Drum suspension systems

Some people still prefer one of the aspects that isolating mounts largely counteract, which is allow bass drum mounted toms and the kick to resonate along with each other no matter which drum is...

Re: Drum suspension systems

I have standard RIMS on my Spaun toms and a virgin kick. Sonically I couldn't be happier with the drums, but I despise head changes with this mount system. I'd much rather have one of the mounts that...

Re: "Recording Heavy Drums" tutorial by Glenn Fricker

I'd have to wonder if he makes any adjustments in the studio.

Re: "Recording Heavy Drums" tutorial by Glenn Fricker

This.

Thats exactly the "balance" I was talking about. On the board side of things, I'd can have a drummer be a little annoyed and talk smack about how I made him "move all my crap here and...

Re: Ever have a drums finish sway you away from purchasing it?

I almost shied away from buying my Spaun kit when I saw the wrap as it was unboxed at the store. I was so used to playing things that were either wine red or black

But I couldn't pass on the...

Re: "Recording Heavy Drums" tutorial by Glenn Fricker

I think you had mentioned Penn Jillete, which is pretty spot on to the character this guy portrays.

Re: "Recording Heavy Drums" tutorial by Glenn Fricker

I'm pretty certain rim shot blasts are accompanied by an implied smirk.

He's correct about the tom angle deal too. Since you're usually aiming the cardioid pattern to a spot off center at the top...

Re: How Does Your Band Set Up on Stage?

Pretty standard I'd say. Depends on the venue though.

I usually like to have my bassist on my right and closer to me for easy communication. We have twin vocalists/guitarists yet some sound guys...

Re: "Recording Heavy Drums" tutorial by Glenn Fricker

I think you guys might be missing the humor and take-with-a-pound-of-salt aspect to all of his videos.

That said, it's not abnormal at all for engineers to ask you to move your cymbals or other...

How do you knot your vintage strainers?

Seems like a ridiculous question, but I gather there are as many methods to knotting a P85 as there are Supras in the world. Share your pics.

I use this method, not because it stays secure, but...

Re: Is live music dead?

Whats ironic is that when you visit DJ-centric boards you will find people who play many different forms of electronic music discussing how clubs that used to book their genres and audiences all went...

Re: Have You Heard of Brady Drums?

I'd heard of them through MD reviews and ads. Finally got to see and strike some of the drums at Vics. Very expensive, even more than high end Sonor, but they look and sound every bit what the price...

Re: Double Bass Drum Futility

I came up playing double bass during the time when the speeds expected in death metal were, quite a bit more pedestrian than you find now.

I took a pretty simplistic approach from guys like Ray...

Re: Is live music dead?

In short, I think it has much more to do with the fact that for better or worse, bands are now required to divvy their creative energies into being promoters, canvassers, social media experts,...

Re: Hi-Hats: Tight or loose????

Both of my clutches have this design too, but for some reason the bottom nuts don't stay locked against the bottom of the sleeve. My old Iron Cobra clutch nut eventually stripped out even though I'm...

Re: Hi-Hats: Tight or loose????

I move the bottom nut as far up the threading as possible and then drop the top nuts down until they just barely have any play on the cymbal. The bottom nut tends to come loose after 6-7 songs. This...
