Re: Rimshots on die cast hoops

Triple flanged is the Fender Telecaster, and Die cast is the Gibson 335. Double flanged stick choppers are the Fender Stratocaster, and S-Hoops are the Fender Jaguar. Wood hoops are the Martin...

Re: Thinking about double bass...

Of course, so have I. Those guys are the rare breed though. Like I said before, some music calls for double bass, but most music doesn't. In solos you can definitely take advantage of it, but how...

I know, but this guy may have used one accidentally.

Re: Gavin Harrison here!

That's pretty common with most bands on tour. Changing all heads on the same day is a major undertaking and there isn't usually that much time available. Also, each drum doesn't get the same amount...

Re: Bass drum mic picking up Toms

That shouldn't have happened. What type of mic was it? Was it omni-directional? Was it positioned inside the bass drum?

If it was unidirectional with a cardiod polar pattern, and it was inside...

Re: How do I tell my friend that his expensive custom handmade snare is shit?

The ginsu knife of snare drums! I've owned many over the years, but don't currently own any Ludwig snares. One session I did years ago, I was playing a set of borrowed Yamaha Oak Customs, snare...

Are you referring to the Journey song? One bass drum.

Re: Thinking about double bass...

Check out what Bill Stewart, Keith Carlock, Roy Haynes and Tony Williams do with their hi-hats for inspiration. That'll keep you busy.

Two bass drums or a double pedal is a very specific sound...

Re: So long story short, I'm a bass player now

Next to drums, bass may be the most important instrument. You control pretty much everything harmonically speaking. To say it's not as intricate or complex as guitar is just silly. Meet my friends...

Re: So that didn't end well

Let's face it, 99.9999% of all musicians are unreliable flakes. There's no secret to a successful career in music. Problem is that it takes work, commitment, dedication and passion, which are all...

Re: Ludwig Snare - Brass, Acrolite, or Clone?

These Yamaha steel snares are surprisingly great sounding snare drums.

Re: Gretsch Broadkaster vs USA Custom

They're completely different drums.
Broadkaster has different hoops, different shell layup, and different bearing edge. You can get any finish you want for either line.

If you don't know which...

Re: Rimshots on die cast hoops

Die cast hoops aren't better or worse than other hoops, they're just different (and pricey). I really like them, but I like regular triple flange, or Slingerland style hoops too.

I think die cast...

Yes, and you would have to use a different size stick on each drum too.

Re: DRUM DAMPENING

These sound great, but they add a lot of weight so they're not ideal if you want to leave it in the drum and you need to haul it around a lot.

Re: THe Conway Slingerlands have been Rescued

Stone drums! Yeah, that's it. They're using the same Slingerland lugs as far as I can tell.

Re: THe Conway Slingerlands have been Rescued

They would have to offer the same designs and features from the past (with a few improvements perhaps). But didn't Gretsch take over some of Slingerland's equipment? And doesn't some guy who used to...
