Re: Not sure if this has been brought up before...

Something we use for karate and sparring gear is simple isopropyl alcohol. Once you decide how to deep clean your throne, Larry, get a spray bottle and fill it with 91% isopropyl alcohol. Spray the...

Re: Interesting Defective Product

I bet that cymbal was stepped on or otherwise pushed into that position. I have seen it happen, though not with a high-end cymbal, and once it's inverted it stays that way until it's popped back to...

Re: First proper gig - report

I'm late to the show as usual, but I'm tickled things went well. Or, to quote someone I know, I'm chuffed to bits!

Very happy for you, Madge.

Re: Mapex USA Maples

I think they'd be a decent buy. I'm not sure they'll have the resale value of certain vintage drums, but they are definitely unique! I played Mapex for years, and even their China-built drums are...

Re: how to avoid crossovers?

He is mostly using doubles, with occasional alternating singles on the syncopated accents. Then later in the solo, the 16th note triplets are singles.

But the simplest answer to your question is,...

Re: Reinforcing rings

There actually are some experts here, if you'll take the time to learn their backgrounds.

I think a lot of the negative reactions are because you say that reinforcement rings are necessary to make...

Re: Could have been awkward ...

I've been known to be somewhat oblivious of social norms, lol, but I would do it. I've had friends of my son ask me to jam, and I'm friends with some of my friends' kids, if that makes any sense. If...

Re: peter criss original ludwig / kiss kit up for auction

That's what I suspected, lol! It was simply after midnight at the New Year's show. :)

Re: peter criss original ludwig / kiss kit up for auction

I see the auction is over, and the link to pics doesn't work.

Here is some footage of the Ludwigs in action.

The video says 1975, but I am pretty sure it is 1974 at Winterland. B&W.

Re: First tuning - opinions please :)

Sorry to take so long to comment, but I wanted to get my headphones before saying anything.

First off, I really like the character of the drums. Very lively, while sounding completely focused,...

Re: Help with Swingtown (Steve Miller Band) Beat

Is it the hi-hat bark on the "and" of 3 that's giving you trouble? As MrInsanePolack said, the sticking is straight 16th notes. You'll just have to develop the independence to open the hat on the...

Re: I can't hear my bass drum when playing live

In simplest terms, it means tune the two heads to notes that compliment one another, with the batter being a lower note than the reso. If they aren't tuned to notes that sound good together, you'll...

Re: I can't hear my bass drum when playing live

Tune up higher than you are now. Reso quite tight, batter looser but still high enough to produce a full tone. Try to get a pleasing interval between the two heads so you don't have power-robbing...

Re: Snare tuning for miced gigs

Addressing the Bonham sound - you will need to tune the resonant head quite a bit higher pitched than the batter. A perfect fourth was suggested, and I think that is a good place to start. My snare...

Re: Snare tuning for miced gigs

It sounds like maybe the sound man wanted a very generic sound? I don't know, but the recording doesn't sound that bad to me. Like the doctor said, if you want fatter, tune the batter lower and add...

Re: Serious timing issue

I disagree. If you concentrate on her guitar strumming only, she is dead on until AFTER the "Silence Like a Cancer Grows," then she corrects to the drummer. You can hear her do a quick double strum....
