Re: Carter Beauford

I agree, it's a bit surprising. I wonder if enough players appreciate just how good he is.

Re: Is Dennis Chambers ill?

I saw DC in New York in May and was very concerned then. I'm not going to speculate here but if a particular diagnosis were to emerge I wouldn't be surprised. It affected the gig for me in the sense...

Re: OH technique - front to back?

How does it sit in the mix with the other mics? I mean, your HH will have be close-mic'd, right? If you had two HHs then there's a stereo view, or if the Ride had a dedicated mic?

Again, if you...

Re: Yamaha PHX - am I missing something?

Isn't it the case that Carter Beauford tried the PHX, ended up replacing all the toms with Recording Customs and then just switched back completely to the RCs?

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta

Personally the thing that shocked me the most when VC went to Ludwig & Paiste was he suddenly had two crashes up front and the ride pushed to his right. I hadn't seen that setup in all the time I...

Re: Loss of too many drum shops in the UK

I've used Graham Russell Drums online too and they're good. Also eCymbals.co.uk have done me good deals.

But I really miss John Rose Music (Sale, MCR) as already mentioned here. I spent ŁK's there...

Re: What amp should I get for backing tracks?

I use my Roland PM30 amp. It's a great piece of equipment, albeit rather heavy. It does have detachable wheels however & aux speakers.

Re: How often do you break/drop your sticks?

I drop a stick every now & then, but it's hardly ever an issue. In terms of breaking them - I never do because I throw them out (donate them to a student!) when they lose their balance through wear....

Re: Ginger Baker

The thing that interests me is the work. I am not so interested in judging the artist from everything external to the work. If I did I would very likely have stopped watching Polanski, certainly quit...

Re: Ginger Baker

Cream never interested me but Baker's playing on Hawkwind's visionary concept album "Levitation" is just sublime. The sound, the playing - absolutely integral to that record. One of the all-time top...

Re: THE CLASSIFIEDS - For Sale / Wanted

Looks like we have the beginnings of a consensus for a European page. Would be nice to see a few more contributions first though, IMO.

Re: THE CLASSIFIEDS - For Sale / Wanted

Not sure, but I know I don't advertise here because it's so US-centric. Any Europeans have an opinion?

Re: THE CLASSIFIEDS - For Sale / Wanted

MODS.... Anyone else.... just wondering if, like me, you think it would be good to have a separate CLASSIFIEDS thread for Europe? As much as I like looking at these listings since they're almost all...

Re: What is hand foot separation?

I've heard Steve Smith use the term inter-dependence rather than independence. I think that is a more instructive term.

Re: Adler Technique (Henry Adler)

I really enjoyed the video demonstration. Certainly very impressive in many ways. I believe I use some of these techniques already, but obviously use others too. It did raise several questions I must...

Re: jazz drumming help - struggling w/playing ahead

It's an important point you raise because I see the time feel in jazz as very different (normally) from many other popular styles. It is essential to be on top of the time as you say & this can be...

Re: Bands with Two Drummers - Is There Really a Point?

Wow... completely forgot I have done the two drummer thing with a Genesis cover band!! I guess the reason why I forgot it was more like one drummer & a singer who owns a drum kit - which I don't mean...

Re: Bands with Two Drummers - Is There Really a Point?

Based on the performance of "Beady Eye" on Jools Holland's TV show (U.K) last night I would to say NO. Mind you, they are dull and mindless in the best "Oasis" tradition.

Re: 10 lesser known but oft heard drummers

I first saw Tommy Aldridge on the Whitesnake videos from their 1987 album, and although I was more interested in Tawny Kitaen(!) I was surprised to find it was Aynsley Dunbar on the album. I still...

Re: Is your drumming so intense you need to use the hick maneuver to keep blood in your brain?

Nope... though I still don't understand what it is. I mostly looked bored I believe, although it's not often the case that I am bored.

Re: RIP Ray Manzarek

I was really sad to learn of this this morning. Ray Manzarek was such a fine player and The Doors are one of my all-time favourite bands. Progressive in the true sense of the word.

These guys made...

Re: I know I'm in a minority, but ... (Eurovision Song Contest related)

No gig last night so I watched it with the Mrs! We have a real laugh with it, although it wasn't as cheesey as in some previous years. We keep a note of all the entries and our favourites too... all...
